Re: Diesel Leaking
Looking at the pump there is a metal collar around it...looks like it will twist off. Is the seal under that collar or do you have to lift the pump? is it okay to remove the collar with a full tank? Sorry for all the questions, just dont want to stuff it up as it drives superb.

Diesel Leaking
Since owning the 406 last week was the first time i have fueled it to the top. I started to notice what looked like bits of oil on the car park. Oil levels are fine and i could not see anything from the front of the car. Yesterday i had a look under the rear of the car and i can clearly see diesel s...

Re: A few minor issues
I'm starting to think this car has had a few extras added. I did try the fog lights but no joy. My dad said he never got them to work, that's the reason i started looking for the switch. Here are a few pics to see if anyone can work out if it's standard or not. http://imageshack.us/a/img51/3104/phot...

Re: A few minor issues
Cheers, i'll try doing that. I'm just finding things as i go around lol. One thing i can't find is the front fog switch unless the stalk switches front and back at the same time but it does only have one position. I have no idea what is supposed to be in this car and what isn't. Now it's clean i'll ...

Re: Idle issues
When a stepper motor is fitted the ECU has to then adapt to the new part. Once fitted and you start the engine it will usually rev quite high but will settle down. Fitted one to a xsara i had and thought i had stuffed it when it scremed it nuts off but it did settle. both map sensor and stepper are ...

Re: A few minor issues
Very big THANK YOU for all the help and info guys :D I now have a well lit dash and a trip meter i can read. I had one bulb left so set about looking for somewhere to put it. I found a display above the stereo that has always been blank, i assumed it worked in conjunction with the original stereo wh...

Re: A few minor issues
If you can still see the LCD then it will be the backlight that has failed, just replace it with another T5 bulb and you should be good to go. Be careful if you do ever have to buy a new instrument panel, there are about a hundred different varieties. Ask on here first and someone will be able to c...

Re: A few minor issues
If you can find a set with an oil level/temp gauge that 'should' work without any fiddling with electrics. The display itself looks like it just plugs in and should be relatively easy to swap, just take your time. A little tip on the bulbs, most factors sell them for about £1 each but if you ask fo...

Re: A few minor issues
Thanks very much guys for the welcome and all that info :D That's my weekend sorted. With regards to the fuel, until it does it for me i'm not touching it. Firm believer in if it's not broken, don't try to fix it. If it does happen then i now know where to look etc, thank you. The LCD display is sti...

A few minor issues
Just recently been given a 406 1.9 TD LX from my dad. My dad had a few starting problems and thanks to you guys is in the process of elimination on my welcome page. There are a couple of other minor faults that i would like to put right if anyone could shed some light. The LCD milage display does no...

Re: Hi, new 406 owner
Hi Doggy,
From my dads description the priming bulb does go soft. I'll attempt to have a look this weekend. Don't you need a specialist tool to turn the collar for removing the sender?

Re: Hi, new 406 owner
It does sound to me like a very slow leak, i think it happened when my dad didn't use the car for a day or two. Car currently has around 140,000 on the clock and drives superb. I did consider buying another sender unit to see if that cures it....i think i will need to start another topic rather than...

Re: Hi, new 406 owner
Hello mate, Sorry yes it is the 1.9. When it first started to do it he was advised to change the filter which he has done.
Like i say it has not done it to me yet. The tick over and drive is spot on. Would air in the system not affect the drive?
