Re: engine swap - 2.2 hdi into a 2.0 hdi rapier 406
You can also get 150+ HP out of the 2.0L fairly easily with a few mods. He is targeting 200+ HP which is achievable on the 2.0HDI but with serious investment. For the 2.2HDI though this power is easier to reach and also with better long term reliability (comparing the 2 engines remapped for ~200HP)...

Re: engine swap - 2.2 hdi into a 2.0 hdi rapier 406
I'm reviving this topic since a friend of mine is evaluating some serious investing in tuning his 2.0DHi-110HP 406 saloon. Though today he drove my remapped 2.2HDI saloon and he was pleasantly impressed. I advised him to go for an engine swap since it will cost, most probably, less than the stuff he...

Re: Removing driveshafts
Thanks, Doggy. To be honest, using a crowbar to take support bearing mounting away from the block scares me a little (from gearbox seal/bearing damaging point of view). I'm planning to install the ML6C soon and I hope though to be able to take the shaft out through the 'conventional' method. Or at l...

Re: Removing driveshafts
Managed to get the driveshaft out with some careful prising out with a crowbar. Yay! I had to do this some months ago on my crashed/scrap 2.2HDI saloon and I faced exactly the same issue: the shaft would not separate from the engine mount under no circumstances. Finally I forced somehow the removal...

Re: Strange brake/ABS faults
Found in the weekend the left front aluminium ABS ring cracked; I cleaned the surface very well and bond it with a special metal glue (similar to the one used successfully in the past for my crashed 406). Everything seems ok so far...

Re: Annoying 'whistle like' noise
After 6000miles of driving with the annoying whistle the issue is finally solved! :) I replaced the antenna with the one from my wrecked 406 and no more whistle. It is strange that the old antenna doesn't have any small holes where air could cause noises but it is certain that the 'new' one solved t...

Re: Annoying 'whistle like' noise
Tested today with left doors/windows/seals covered with wide sealing tape - no good result. Same test with right doors - no result. Tried also to seal the windshield sides - no good result.
The only idea I have is to try to remove the antenna and check again

Strange brake/ABS faults
As I got used to since I became a 2.2HDI happy owner, my car 'challanges' my technical skills from time to time just for my brain and hands not to get laisy from lack of troubleshooting and fiddling :)) My latest 2001 semi-mux 2.2HDI Saloon bought in January with 240.000 on the clock had since the v...

Re: Annoying 'whistle like' noise
So you're not actually able to tell where this whistle comes from? I don't think a rear wing would do that and neither of mine had an undertray. My D8 did whistle from the driver's door seal though... I also assumed that neither the rear wing nor the lack of engine shield could cause it but these w...

Annoying 'whistle like' noise
Hello everyone, After a sad story with my previous 2.2 HDI saloon semi-mux 2001 (severely crashed by my wife), I currently drive an identical 2001 semi-mux 2.2 HDI saloon which, among other minor issues, has one which is really annoying. At high speed highway (above ~90mph/145km/h - I usually drive ...

Re: 2.2 HDI timing belt strange issue?!
Did you mark the front crankshaft pulley which carries the timing belt? If you did then you can reference your timing marks there.... you should always mark the crank pulley even if you fit the locking pin. Looking at your photo the hole you have highlighted looks oversize to me...the other hole 18...

Re: 2.2 HDI timing belt strange issue?!
I had something similar when I changed the timing belt on my first 2.2 406. There was no problem with the crankshaft position, but it was possible to get the camshaft timing perhaps 1/2 a tooth out by not setting the tension equally on both sides of the cam sprocket, (I hadn't loosened the screws h...

2.2 HDI timing belt strange issue?!
Hello everyone, I need your help in solving an issue I faced during last Saturday timing belt change for my 2.2HDI - 2001 saloon (if there is a similar article on the forum I'm asking an admin to move my thread to the relevant topic): everything was ok during the change and tension setup, I rotated ...

Re: 2001 2.2HDi saloon - repair or scrap?...
A small update: finally I found out about a possibility to register oficially the new car (Frenchie) using the papers of the old car. The legal procedure involves reusing the old engine of the damaged car, replacing the engine in an 'authorised workshop', oficial inspection of the replacement work a...

Re: 2001 2.2HDi saloon - repair or scrap?...
It would be worth looking at the drive shafts and where they exit the gearbox for signs of damage, also the rear of the engine/turbo area. The cambelt may have been put under strain with such a harsh stop also. I am also concerned about the drive shafts due to the postition of the gearbox (twisted ...
