Re: Engine swap- anything I should know?
Hi. I have bought a new car- so this one is just sitting in the village outside the mechanic's garage looking sorry for itself. He reckons there is still compression there- so likely rocker/lifter damage after the cam belt went. I'm washing my hands of it now and moving on.. I will be listing it on ...

Re: Engine swap- anything I should know?
Many thanks all, I will get the rocker cover off and take a look and might come back on here for some bits. Fingers crossed it's just the rockers that are gone.

Engine swap- anything I should know?
So my lower pulley fell apart at the start of the month, and took out the cam belt, causing many hours of despair on a Devon roadside waiting for recovery. :( Now the car has had a new cam belt kit fitted and lower pulley but won't run. Mechanic has also pointed out that oil is leaking into the inle...

406 SE 2.2 estate for sale (non runner)
Hi all, sad times- the 406 is poorly and needs to go. 2003 2.2HDi SE (half leather, 16" alloys, electric mirrors, air con etc etc) 147k Lower pulley went and took out cam belt at the start of the month, pulley and cam belt now replaced, now cranks but won't start. Has MOT until September 16. No DPF....

No- the DPF is gone and I've been running the 180bhp map. I did drive around with the anti poll warning for a week or so before binning the DPF- probably around 18 months ago now.

Re: Starter motor replaced, car now goes, with problems!!
Thanks for that reply- i had suspected it may be the mechanic's lack of knowledge of the engine- he did say that the 2.2's were crap, and he always preferred the 2.0's- I think he maybe just didn't fancy doing the work (he got a price of £400 for a turbo). I'll talk to another mechanic I know and se...

Starter motor replaced, car now goes, with problems!!
Starter motor replaced. Car now starts, and drives, but it turns out that was the least of its problems! It had been lacking power for a month, and I was soon about to start some investigation, now our local mechanic has taken a look and more or less read the car its last rights! Turbo problems- Tur...

Re: Non starter after battery change power saver mode
Thanks guys. Starter motor- i bet that is what's up- it already had a new one a couple of years ago- but i guess if there is gunky oil getting on it it could have gone again- and there are definitely gunky deposits in that area- I'll check more thoroughly tomorrow. It also rings true with the fact t...

Non starter after battery change power saver mode
Hi all, I have a non-starter. 2.2 HDi. The car started sounding like the battery was missing a beat about a week ago- hesitant to engage stater motor, particularly when cold. Yesterday at my Mums it sounded like it was on its last legs, I was amazed it started to be honest. Unfortunately when i got ...

Re: Old is best!
As an old school petrolhead myself lam just smitten by the smell of my good old 2 liter 8 valve motor on my 505 pug sedan. thats exactly the thing about the 205- when we bought it, the wife said 'ah, yes, that's a great car- it smells right!' I borrow it once a week to gee it a bit of a run, it's v...
