My 406 HDI estate did that. The mechanics told me it was a pressure gate spring for the turbo ... obviously talking ********* ! The clutch was changed and the noise went away. Unfortunately, the clutch then went away after 16 months. :frown: It turned out the central spline in the clutch plate strip...

I get the impression mine's still a baby ....
2000 W reg 110 HDI estate with 77000 miles on the clock. I bought it in 2001 with 16000 miles on it, ex hire car.

Hi Guys, Thanks for the comments ... The LED on the remote flashes brightly when the buttons are pressed, so the battery is OK (It's quite new). I had to go to my local dealer for a top hose, and I asked them about it. Turns out they have a test box to check keys. :o Checked mine and sometimes it do...
