Probably is head gasket but it could be the oil cooler. Sniff test is the only way to check properly but you could try bypassing the cooler and putting in fresh oil and coolant and see if it re-appears. I disconnected the hoses on top of the oil-cooler and by-passed the one between engine and radia...

Re: Oil with water is 100% sure head-gasket???

I would not take oil in water as 100% head gasket as I have have know your symptoms purely because a previous owner had used an old oil can to top up. I would recommend having it checked out though. The last running day all the oil of the engine went with the water and got chance to leave through t...

Re: Oil with water is 100% sure head-gasket???

In accordance to the oil-cooler I can see the pipes on top of the oil-filter but they contain reasonable clean water while after unscrewing the water release valve on the bottom of the radiator it seems like a lot of oil came from it and it's still dripping! Could the problem come from the unit behi...

Oil with water is 100% sure head-gasket???

some days ago I noticed some oil in the expansion tank and I expected more trouble ahead but kept driving. As expected one day most of the oil in the engine disappeared and I decided to stop the car and fix it. As I could not see any water with the oil and also there were no air bubbles coming from ...

Maybe the following could give a clue. When the car is running at low speed and I hear the ticking noise clearly cutting the contact for an instance and getting it back on will make the sound completely disappear. Engine runs smooth as ever then! Whenever I cut the engine it starts all over though. ...

Re: 406 2.0 HDI 2001 DW10 engine not starting

I changed in the recent weeks the high pressure pump to no avail. Today I finally found someone to measure the car and it received fault code 1404. P1404 IAT - B circuit Malfunction / EGR closed position performance / EDC15C2-Additional heating circuit 2 and pre-heat It seems that it has nothing to ...

Re: Retrieving Fault codes

These are good links and thank you very much for this. I never even thought of buying and shipping from China. I am eager to get my car going, see: http://www.406oc.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=21294 as it supposed to work as a taxi here in Ouagadougou but I tried everything else so I will give this a ...

Retrieving Fault codes

Hello Peugeot owners, I came across a way to read the fault codes with just a simple LED and a switch. This method is described here: Fault_Codes_Peugeot.zip Now my question, the above is written for older models than my 406HDI from 2001 but I do have a grey two pin connector but it's not green and ...

Re: Knocking sound on 406 1.9TD '98

Hello and thanks for the advice. The sound is definitely way louder than it should be but I will try to make a clearer sound example tomorrow. Crankshaft pulley is ok. The sound does come from above and of five to ten times starting in the morning it starts one time without the excessive noise and i...

Re: 406 2.0 HDI 2001 DW10 engine not starting

The filter is a Bosch filter. There is only automatic bleeding and I've tried everything I could imagine, including connecting the low pressure pump directly with the high-pressure pump. I am thinking of mounting everything back again because I came across a method of reading fault codes with a simp...

Re: Knocking sound on 406 1.9TD '98

If you have vlc player I noticed you need to drag it into the player before it plays. I didn't get it to go by double clicking myself. It was original a .3gp file and I compressed it with .rar and I just renamed it to .zip as I could not upload .rar files... The oil pressure light goes out immediate...

Knocking sound on 406 1.9TD '98 "update"

Some while ago a noise started to appear while starting the engine of a 406 1.9TD engine. After starting a few times all seemed normal again and the car drove fine. Unfortunately this became routine... Since recently the sound is hard to get rid of and I wonder if the above sounds familiar to one of...
