Re: Weird foot pedal issue 406 2001 2 HDI
Sadly I have little experience when it comes to fault finding the ABS system, but a hairline crack in one of the reluctor rings is possible... As for the door locks, push the little tab just inside the curve of the interior handle will lock all the doors, this will prevent any ...

... works fine. I can lock up the rear wheels of all my 406's without having to yank on the lever. Pulsing brake pedal can be caused by dirty reluctor rings or sensors coated with metal filings. Remove sensors and clean, make sure the teeth on rings are also free of foreign material. Get the ...

You go girl..!! If you go to the Pug garage and say 'my handbrake is poo' I'm sure they will say ' is it a 406??'... The reluctor ring is like a toothed wheel that spins round with the wheels, each tooth is detected by a sensor and this calculates how fast the car is going ( for the ...

... when the brake pedal gets to bottom of application, though not every time. I have spoken to the garage and they say an ABS fault with either a 'reluctor' ring (I may have misheard that) or CV joint ?? Does that sound right? What has a CV joint got to do with the ABS brakes? Methinks you need ...

... Maybe the master cylinder? Collapsed brake line? Does the disk get noticeably hotter that side than the other? Oh yes, as far as I remember a duff reluctor ring only gives trouble at low speed but... It's worth trying it just to eliminate it.

Re: ABS fault - dodgy brake pedal
... had rattled around and bent the ABS sensor. Removing the debris and carefully straightening the sensor so it could get a proper signal from the reluctor ring completely fixed the problem. (The longer term fix I made involved replacing the splash plates, the handbrake shoes and fittings, and ...

... the engine, same general area as the reversing light switch. Think it's a tubular hall-effect sensor, poked through the bell housing, senses the reluctor ring on the flywheel. Can't swear this is the right picture, (from a 2.2 peugeot boxer van, No.3 being the crank sensor). https://coastalmotorhomes.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/650x/040ec09b1e35df139433887a97daa66f/4/3/43375.png ...

Re: power loss
Check the front reluctor rings for hairline cracks, as this is normally the culprit, if not the check the rear abs sensors inside the hubs have not been damaged by the handbrake shoe retaining pin falling out.... Other than these ...

... problem lies, try the footwell connector... The signal from the rear abs to the abs block can be disrupted here. As you said, I believe a dodgy reluctor ring will pop a fault when moving, not at the self test - so I think it's a wire issue. This was the issue with Sonia's car, took 2 years of ...

... this confirms PP2K can 'see' it. The fault usually appears after the self-test and can pop up with the car stationary, so I think that rules out reluctor rings. I'm wondering if it might be intermittent comms between the ABS controller and BSI or engine ECU, (whichever it talks to), maybe this ...
