Re: Domestic Lighting cable sizing

Dubious calculation alert: I have 4 x 6 amp MCB's for lighting only. 4 x 6 amp x 240v = 5760 watts max power. 5760 watts/5w LED lamp = I can have 1152 downlighters - I think that will be enough  Bailes - I saw one of those 'electricians day' vids where he was called to a new-build apartment in ...

Re: Domestic Lighting cable sizing

Yes the house is divided into 4 x 6 amp MCB's for Lighting.

I did consider the strength of the cable, I'm not 'pulling' though - one tip I picked up on YouTube was when using 1.0mm then bend the ends over double before inserting into the terminals as they can break when screwed down hard.

Domestic Lighting cable sizing

Our house was built 2003 and all the lighting wiring is 1.5mm T&E. I fitted 12v transformers upstairs running downlights but have started to convert them all to mains power LED's. I was terminating 6 x downlights last weekend and it was a pain getting two cable ends into the fittings' terminal block...

Re: Is it too late for a change?

Bailes's 'magic gearbox potions' has got to be worth a go? you do hear about so many slushmatics being fixed with better fluid. Our local corner shop keeper used to have a 535d I think in 2008 when it was quite new, he said on the motorway it was stonking and silly numbers would come up on the speed...

DDD - the 535 is too much maintenance? what else needs doing? I'd imagine you being pretty good at keeping up with all the usual stuff.

This bit's weird: "I moved the seat and now the Air Bag light is on" Shirley if they've owned it that long and a quick googlage to this here establishment would have that sorted pronto - why mention in it the add? Oh wait a minute! it comes with a "touch up pen"?? ohhhh wow I'm in

Re: Driveshaft popped out.

My limited knowledge of the innards of a driveshaft UJ tells me the 'tripod' of 'big balls' :supafrisk: detached from their housing and you've shoved them back in and nipped up the small-end of the boot?

Why is this screaming to me that you'll have trouble in the future with it popping out again?

Re: Peugeot 406 Coupe EV conversion

I watched the video, the speed increases in a nice linear fashion - exactly what you'd expect from an EV 8)

Well done so far on this project!

Re: Is it too late for a change?

There's a huge shortage of construction staff and workers right throughout the UK and I regularly get offers of work elsewhere. I've had 2 companies trying to poach me over the lockdown period, trouble is you just know what you'll be walking into..... I bet if you mentioned leaving they'd increase ...

Re: Is it too late for a change?

My biggest gripe with the industry at the moment is with the document uploading/sharing systems like 4P or BimXTRA. If you try to 'RFI' or ask anyone for anything these days its... "It's on 4P" rather than just telling you the answer. Or if during install you hit a snag, there's no offer to help it...

Bloody hell Sam - welcome to Construction Industry Sub-Contracting. IT IS SHYTE Signing up to onerous contract conditions, everyone around you letting you down, Main Contractors not helping you other than saying "your the specialist", trying to make a badly-estimated job profitable, Client changing ...

Re: Engine change

I'm confused, you have a 1999 1.9 XUD in a 406 but also have a spare 406 'tdi' engine - to possibly transplant into an 'older' 2005 van :? Whichever way around this is you're likely to run into issues with immobilisers/ECU's/Keys/Wiring Looms etc in my mind. I'd say that unless you have a spare engi...

Re: 1.6HDi DPF tested at 10 years old, 80k miles, how bad is it?

With all this Covid ...., I wonder how many people have been caught with their pants down over how to pay their £200, £300, £500 PCP payments. They haven't even got there yet, when the Furlough Scheme (or delayed redundancy scheme as I call it) ends then this is when the pain will start for sure. T...

Yes PCP is pretty much a Lease package but with different endings - it certainly allows people to drive cars that would have been out of reach with traditional financing but I do fear manufacturers hike list prices to cover themselves.

How did the Jeep get stolen? if I may ask.

Re: 1.6HDi DPF tested at 10 years old, 80k miles, how bad is it?

I've just used an online inflation calculator "inflationtool" ] It says £10,000.00 in 2003 would now be equal to £14,228.45 (inflation rise of 42.28% 2003 > 2020). I've been watching car manufacturing videos recently, the assembly workers aren't allowed to lift anything so they have power-assisted l...
