Re: Car falling apart
A tell-tale of the TB failing is a jolty vibration when you stop the engine. rwb had the same issue - seem to fail after 10 years or so.

Re: Car falling apart
I still love the power of my 407 - it's what makes me want to fix it up rather than spends thousands on another car, requiring just as much work. Limp mode - throttle bodies are common failure points and doesn't always come up with EML. Very easy to replace. These engines also seem sensitive to fuel...

Re: Car falling apart
That's not a bad strategy. Those eBay refillers with gauges on - I guess I can just use the gauges without filling it (knowing that it will likely escape anyway).

Car falling apart
My 407 is on its last legs. There's lacquer peeling on the front wing, the interior blower is making a racket when at 100%, ABS fault is ever present, needs a new battery and now my air con died. The air con issue seems to have coincided with the battery going flat and I had to jump start it. It's b...

Re: Tick tock...
Utter BS. I am going to buy a 1970's Lada with knackered piston rings and drive it around Bristol.
That'll be the real death of High Street. What a way to reduce footfall.

Re: New car suggestions
Uhh.... we bought an X3, 2012 2.0d. It's actually lovely to sit in and has decent power.
Hope it lasts and doesn't cost the earth in repairs. Happily, there are plenty of diag cables for sale for that dealer level diagnostics so hopefully I can do a lot myself.

Re: New 'stricter' MOTs...
My FAP-less 407 has once again passed MOT with no advisories (OK, they did have to replace the number plate bulbs...). Emissions limit applied is 3.0 with a note saying they couldn't find the sticker (don't think they looked). Curiously the MOT advisory from last year has been withdrawn on the gov s...

Re: New car suggestions
Welp, after all the faff, we are still no closer to getting a new car (or sleep for that matter). Got a nice new driveway instead though! 20190830_120201.jpg We did go look at the CX-5 2.2 diesel and it was "nice". No low end grunt, though, and all seems to come after 2000rpm in one big lump (remind...

Re: New car suggestions
I did look at Renners briefly and I am scared of them falling apart. Can't be worse than a Peugeot though!
Thanks for this - will take a closer look.

Re: New car suggestions
Hope your daughter found it easier with twins than us. Pure hell.... And no sleep. Not to mention a massive leak in my wallet. All these SUV thingies are certainly fetching a premium. Anything remotely recent (2015+) are up in 15k range! Heck, I might as well buy a Range Rover Evoque thing or a nice...

New car suggestions
So, after an addition to our family, times two, it's time to replace the car. No, not the 407 - my wife's Swift. With two babies and a twin pram thing in the boot, there's literally no space for anything else (shopping etc.). Even the 407 is a tad on the small side and I have to push my seat forward...
