On some HDi's the LP pump will only run for about 10 seconds unless you crank the engine. I think Welly's suggesting you may need to do this a few times to fill an empty filter, no point cranking it until the bowl's full.

When you say the indicators don't work, does that mean none of the indictors, repeaters or warning lamps, when you operate the turn signals, hazards & lock / unlock car with the remote?
There's at least 3 separately fused supplies to the BSI associated with indicators / hazard lights, (F4, 6 & 27).

I honestly can't advise you what's best to investigate the anti pollution issue - the dealers are more expensive but possibly less likely to mis-interpret what it's telling you. The anti pollution warning might not be the cause of it not running. The most popular HDi issue seems to be fuel pump related - lots of people have had LP pump failures and I had one where I lost the power to the pump due to a wiring problem.
