Mrs lofty has had a Focus for the last 6 years and im quite happy for her to keep bumping that into kerbs/posts/garage doors etc etc. Still a bloody good looking car the 406 though, i dont think i'll find another family saloon that ticks ...

2001 406 2.0 Hdi Rapier Estate, 12m MOT & 6m TAX

Hiya folks. Ive just changed jobs and have been reluctantly enrolled on the company car scheme - a Nissan Kumquat of all things, so unfortunatly my loyal, trusty, gorgeous 406 estate is up for sale. I purchased this a few months back from the ORIGINAL owner who had aquired the car from new. A lovely...

Re: what does (SR) mean

All it means is that the car could have been offered at some point with an air con / sunroof either or option.

I wouldnt be concerned about it in the slightest.

Re: So what do you do?

I work for a Peugeot Main dealer as a car sales executive..... My head is bruised from banging it on the desk in frustration at the way management run things. Its only a stop gap job for now. I remember sitting in the service waiting area of my Peugeot dealer when I first got the 406 and over...

Re: Decisions decisions

Im off to lemans on friday morning and i hope my tank of fuel will see us at least 950 miles as usual. Hdis are good engines, as long as (like all engines) they have been maintained regularly and driven with care. The number of faults we see at my work (main stealer PUG) with 407's has put me off ow...

Re: Hdi engine temp sensor

I had the same issues with my 90 hdi, stop light - beep - "coolant temp to high", even when it was stone cold. The green coolantp tem sensors not too hard to change, make sure you order the little black rubber seal from Pug as well, cos they dont come supplied with one. Its in the black coolant hous...

Re: 406HDI 2.0 -SENSOR NAME?

Im sure its the boost pressure sensor, loads get broken by folks leaning on them and breaking off the tiny tube leading to the pipe.

I broke mine when i shunted my last 406, i effected a half decent repair using a Mk4 escort brake fluid resovoir pipe and some arraldite!

Re: funny rattle...

All HDi's come with an amount of "HDi noise paranoia"

Everyone ive had had made different sorts of noises, unless its the obvious disintergrating bottom pulley rattle, most are accepted as normal these days.

My current 90 is quieter than my last 110, more because the DMF aint on the way out
