Re: Anyone had a Smart Meter fitted at home?

Unless you wanted to install lesser lamps, but more of them I don't see if you could make an improvement to the current setup. Despite having visited your house I cannot remember seeing a bollard. I'd think 3 or 4 GU10 style down lighters in the soffit of your garage and a lantern outside your...

Re: Anyone had a Smart Meter fitted at home?

Bailes - I have a Bollard fitting on the front of the house with a SON-E 70w lamp and control gear, wondering if this is a drain on the leccy bills (it's on a dawn/dusk sensor) I always thought it was an efficient way of lighting but would an LED "corn" type lamp be much better for me? Your 70w SON...

Re: AL4 Auto Box - Anyone performed the Borg Warner Solenoids upgrade?

Unfortunately automatics are very rare in the UK so we don't have much experience of them going wrong. When you say you changed the gearbox oil, did you just drain & fill following the leveling sequence? Or did you remove a gearbox cooler pipe and drain the entire gearbox? usually the gearbox will h...

Re: Welly in the Guinness Book of Records

The record attempt has been rejected by the RBofR as apparently the gaps between the cars in the video were too large.

They're going to try again next year and I shall be there in my V40! I was gutted the one this year was on Mothers Day.

Re: Anyone had a Smart Meter fitted at home?

I think new homes design is way off where it should/could be, even the layout of houses hasn't changed much. A minor thing but I think new houses should have a proper laundry room large enough to wash, dry and iron clothes - out of the way of the main living spaces. Ground/Air source heat pumps for...

Re: Anyone had a Smart Meter fitted at home?

There's lots of standard tarrifs out there where the price is set for the duration of the tariff where you can have a smart meter installed. I'm not one for having different tarrifs for different times of the day. I suspect over the next few decades gas will get phased out and/or more expensive and ...

Re: Anyone had a Smart Meter fitted at home?

I've had a lot of GU10 lamps fail 'early' one lasted about 6 minutes and literally POPPED - loud enough for us all to rush and see what it was. I've noticed the face of the LED 'bulb' is cool but some of the control stuff/circuit gets quite warm behind it. Standard house lighting Twin & Earth is 1....

Re: Anyone had a Smart Meter fitted at home?

LED's really are a case of 'you get what you pay for'. Despite being a fully trained electrician, I don't do 'cash jobs'. :supafrisk: However, if I did I would pick one of the following brands for domestic lighting... Phillips, Verbatim, Robus, Aurora or LAP. I've fitted hundreds, possible even thou...

Re: Anyone had a Smart Meter fitted at home?

Most quality, branded domestic LED lamps will have measured in the internal circuitry to correct this power factor. I don't think it's just led bulbs we have to worry about, there's just been a hell of a lot of them sold on the "this'll save you a packet" boast. Is there actually any way of telling...

Re: Anyone had a Smart Meter fitted at home?

We've had them fitted in our current house and our last house. We got sick of our energy suppliers changing our direct debit amount without asking and ending up with a ton of credit or getting letters threatening to cut out services because we were behind. With the smart meter we get a nice l...

Re: 1.6HDi coming our way - Please Help!

Another interesting one that lots of people have different opinions on, do you change out the factory fill early or not? A thread I did on Bob Is The Oil Guy when I dropped the oil in our Sandero at 1000miles... https://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/5060284/leave-factory-fill-i...

Re: 1.6HDi coming our way - Please Help!

I can't find the specs now but the transmission takes something like 9 litres but if you drain it you only get about 3. When we got the car it looked a bit cloudy, maybe something to with the underdrive failure (it looked fine when we were buying it  ) There's probably a way to pump out the w...

Re: 1.6HDi coming our way - Please Help!

Ah, yours is some Toyota 4 speed. We know a song about in-house automatic gearboxes in this very thread  4 speed with underdrive apparently, I only know that because it's in the service history, being replaced at 42,685km. I dunno how it works but it seems to change gear rather a lot and I se...

Re: Have I broken our 1.6HDi turbo charger?

Thought about making a sump nut access hole but to be fair it's a good chance to get under and look at all the Citroen leakages and assess how much longer to pretend they're not leaking....and replace the undertray in blissful disregard. Power steering leakage - Yes Weirdy fluid for gearbox actuato...
