Re: Warming up?

I just give it a few seconds to get the oil circulating then drive gently to start with. No load idling isn't the way to warm up a car.

Re: Snow socks/chains

Winter tyres on the front, disable the ABS, off you go. I've never seen the need for winter tyres on the rear, they're there to aid traction not to allow you to drive beyond the conditions. I'm also of the opinion that if you're not used to controlling a car beyond the limit of grip, then find yours...

Re: Car choices for 17 year olds

Another vote for a 1.9XUD 306.

Cracking motor, dirt cheap to insure, handle really really well and look after you. Also easy to work on and cheap parts too!

Oh, and tuneable. Very tuneable :cheesy:

Re: Panel filters - worthwhile or not?

A good OE quality paper one will do the same job just as well, and it's arguably not much cheaper to have the K&N due to the cost of the cleaning kit.

Re: Remap Query - To Cat Or Not?

Cherry Bomb FTW! :cheesy: I haven't seen one of those since about 1987 - I didn't know you could still get them. Do you know how the system sounds yet? you will hear the turbo for sure and then diesels make a very low, gruff sound. Here's my first run at prescott this summer, best with headphones :...

What sort of money are you after, I know you said offers, but I have fairly trashed rear suspension, seats, etc etc.. So I'd be looking to buy it for the good bits to swap onto mine. Also is it a 110 model?

Re: Remap Query - To Cat Or Not?

Well, I'm not too worried about that, my MOT tester said he'll pass my new homebrew exhaust (3"straight through to a cherrybomb backbox). It's all legal etc, he's just "sympathetic", same as most local independents if you're not an arse to them. http://306oc.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?thumbnail=8718

When were you last at a trackday?

Although there are very few 406's out on track, the last one I saw was a coupe at pugfest and that went into the gravel at the hairpin..
