Re: 406 1.9 td grey/white at start
I use 100% Waste Veg Oil in summer and a 90% WVO 10% petrol in winter with very little difference in performance. I've advanced the timing slightly which helps starting but if you have weak plugs or an air leak it will be exaggerated by the oil. Any equipment you buy will pay for itself within a tan...

I found if you flip the metal intake over to the front of the pump you get better access to the awkward plug.

Re: 2.1td Tank Breather
Perfect, thanks. I can pour it in slowly but as I use WVO it just means I'm exposed to whatever our fine English weather is doing at the time. I go through 25L every 3 days so I'm out there a fair bit. I wonder what that pipe goes to above the door? It does look like the breather goes to the neck, a...

Re: 406 1.9 td grey/white at start
Does it start quickly? Both air in the fuel system and failing plugs can cause your symptoms.

2.1td Tank Breather
Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has a diagram of the tank breather system? It must be blocked because when I fill up too fast the car likes to regurgitate the fuel all over me, back wheel and road
Cheers

Re: Headtorches
I use this- http://www.energizer.com/flashlights-lighting/headlight/Pages/6-led-headlight.aspx its been very good as you can angle the bulbs when it's on your noggin. Battery's last ages too. I bought it from Wilkinsons ages ago so it's lasted quite well up to now. This is also very very useful http...

306 is a bit of a lottery unless it's a Ph1 I believe.

I've done the Bosch conversion on a 406 so can give you a few pointers if you decide to get a 406. :-)

Re: XUD11 head rebuild - 250bhp target!
Good stuff I've been following on 306oc..... did you get your boost control figured out in the end?
I've also noticed that Bosch injectors from a xud9 have shorter nozzles, did you convert to Bosch from and xud9 or xud11?

Re: 406 2.1 egr and hydraulic clutch
Yes unplugging it will disable the EGR, the solenoid is on the bulkhead. The clutch system is sealed and cannot be bled unless you change the black plastic pipe with a suitable flexi section. If you do this be careful as the barbed section on the M/C is easily broken (as I've found out) :-)

Re: 406HDI Remove A/C compressor & fit smaller belt?
On mine I just used an old belt, cut it to size and took it to a parts shop and asked for a belt the same size. The belt I have is one rib less than standard but does the job. On my 205 I got rid of the PAS too As long as the alternator has good belt coverage you should be ok.

Re: Cold start mechanism explanation 406 1.9td
There are two mechanisms on the Bosch pump to aid cold starting. The lever nearest the glow plugs is usually controlled by a wax stat, this increases idle speed when cold and reverts to hot idle settings once warm. You can adjust this via the two screws or the cable tensioner. The other is on the fr...
