Re: Buying a Cat D repaired car
Depends on the level of damage done imo. My Jimny would have been a cat C or D if I'd bothered the insurance company with it. Plastic rear bumper (dealer only part) plus painting was over £800, then add the 2 tail light units plus bulbs and the total was over £1000 for a £1000 car with no structural...

Ollie - I've just got off the phone with your boss and the oil change you did last week on the Airbus A380 is leaking a bit, pilot reckons you didn't torque the sump nut enough; he's 'murdered' it up as much as he can using an adjustable spanner from the BP garage but they're asking if you'd pop ba...

I do have to make the 500 mile round trip to stay with the in laws for a few days, with 4 kids in tow just incase you guys think I'm getting off easy. I'd rather be at work tbh

Re: LED Street Lighting 'upgrading'
Poor design. Leds are available in a wide range of spectrums you could easily use amber leds to replicate the colour of sodium lighting, even warm white leds would be better than what they're using. With appropriate reflection and diffusion you can limit the point source look, which will reduce shad...

Re: Oh noes - the MOT man will be looking for DPF's
I read somewhere that, in theory, a DPF filters out the 'big bits' of soot but leaves 'micro particles' in the atmosphere - which is what causes breathing problems. I have to say if I ever walk near to a modern dizzler the fumes from the exhaust smell almost like a fine dust and almost makes you fe...

Re: Oh noes - the MOT man will be looking for DPF's
My current concern is my Euro6 Focus has a terrible hesitation issue which is EGR related which Ford have openly admitted to me they know about but have no intention of fixing. I don't want to remove the EGR and DPF but I see no other option? If the law changes then that's going to really f*ck me o...

I thought about that too [emoji38] What was it again? 2 x oil drums and 2 x thick planks? I liked it though, practical engineering and common sense to get over a difficult to achieve issue. I don't need that with the jimny, 4x wheel ramps and you can pretty much walk undeneath it ;) http://i809.pho...

I use a ramp with a lump of 4x2 on top in place of an axle stand.Welly wrote:Axle stands not required. See 'wheel under car' for top safety measures
I used to work with a guy who's car fell on his face (fell of its Jack). Scarface we called him.
Now I feel paranoid and need to buy axle standz.

Re: Oh noes - the MOT man will be looking for DPF's
This came up on the Volvo Forum where anyone who removes their DPF is hauled over the coals for eternity. Someone suggested an up-yer-pipe sensor looking for particulate which should otherwise be captured? I would suggest a thermal imager would show the internals of a DPF quite nicely? whereas a 'g...

Re: Oh noes - the MOT man will be looking for DPF's
How are they going to do that then? I suppose a boreascope up your tailpipe ( ) isn't feasible and they aint gonna be allowed to dismantle it (especially if it's welded), so they'll only be able to use software which, seeing as how they'd have to have some pretty expensive software to be ab...
