Re: HDI 90 Jerky / Hesitation / Flat Spot

Thanks, Yes I agree the cars must have been OK when new, so should it not be possible to get them right again? Mine at 57K can't be 'worn out', so what's going wrong? From your consumption figures past and present you are suggesting a drop of around 20% in economy, that's substantial. Adam, how's th...

Re: HDI 90 Jerky / Hesitation / Flat Spot

Adam, 58 is a massive mpg improvement on your 43, how's the flatspot, just the same? How much was the MAF, and was it OEM or pattern? Martin, blanking the EGR was just a cheap & easy place to start. The rational was if the EGR is blanked off it can't be interferring with low speed running. Fitting t...

Re: HDI 90 Jerky / Hesitation / Flat Spot

Fitting the EGR blank plate did improve low revs, but it was marginal.

Same, 43mpg, 40 if I'm towing.
Have you had a new MAF?

Re: HDI 90 Jerky / Hesitation / Flat Spot

Mostly rural commuting, don't do too much heavy traffic.
40-50mph mostly.
I had hoped for better.

Re: HDI 90 Jerky / Hesitation / Flat Spot

RWB suggested changing throttle position potentiometer, see my earlier thread: '2003 56K Siemens Hdi90 poor slow running' it's on page 2 now. It's a possibility, but so is the MAF, clutch sensor, LAMDA (if it has one). Could easily end up buying a lot of expensive parts and still have the problem. I...

Re: HDI 90 Jerky / Hesitation / Flat Spot

Adam, Mine too. 1300-1500rpm flatspot, hesitates, kangaroos. Makes town driving painful. So far I have blanked the EGR, changed all filters and flushed with injector cleaner. My next step is to get local garage to read codes and pass his opinion. I had an aircooled RD250 that was just the same. That...

Re: thinking of a diy remap

Thanks Doggy, I'll probably take it somewhere expensive. Austec in Crawley seem to think they are the cohones, be nice to get some 1st hand experience. Also need to get rid of the niggles first. Have got a topbox but it only comes out for ski trips. No need for a dog guard, unless the kids are windi...

Re: thinking of a diy remap

Just read this and emailed Steve at Hdi-tuning.co.uk, he replied promptly to say that he doesn't do Siemens,
Not enough around apparently.
Anyone remapped a Siemens 90?

Re: maf sensor,symptoms and check.

Good question grasmere, is there a test method out there?

I have a 1500rpm 'flat spot' on my 90 which I am trying to get to the bottom of.
MAF connected or disconnected car seems exactly the same, is that right?
I have cleaned the MAF with injector cleaner, though it didn't really need it.

Re: 90 or 110 hdi

Bob,
My 03 Hdi90 estate has a sticker at the bottom of the B pillar, behind the lower back corner of the drivers door that says in big letters 'Hdi 90'.
This was handy as the bloke I bought it off had no idea what it was, and he was the original owner!

Re: AFTERMARKET TENSIONER CRAP??? delco/delphi?

Mines flapping a bit. Had all this on the XUD/405, ended up setting the eccentric tensioner with the engine running so I could see exactly when it stopped flapping, it was perfect for a while and yes I still have all my fingers! I'm gonna have another look at the Hdi but I think it might be too fidd...

Re: 2003 56K Siemens Hdi90 poor slow running

OK, new fuel and air filters, filled the filter bowl with Comma Diesel Magic injector cleaner. Also took sons best Airfix brush and delicately brushed the MAF sensors with injector cleaner and carefully airlined off. I havent been near any motorways but I have been able to give the motor a couple of...

Re: 2003 56K Siemens Hdi90 poor slow running

Thanks Jaspar, a new filter set wouldn't hurt though the air filter looks very clean, I'll see if I can get some injector cleaner too and do like wot you said. Since my 1st post I have driven 40 miles with the MAF plug off and there is no perceivable difference to the feel of the car or performance ...

2003 56K Siemens Hdi90 poor slow running

Good afternoon and seasonal greetings, I am new here and am just 3 months into 406 ownership having 'migrated' from the 405 community. Nothing against you 406ers, but the 405 was a damn fine car. I don't appear to be unique in my complaint but some specific guidance would really help. so great at ti...
