Re: Door Lock Barrel -- Wanted!
Which part are you exactly looking for? I have 4 complete units in cars I have wrecked and are about to go to be weighed in. I have stripped one unit, not sure what part of yours is damaged from your pics. Reason I ask is I am in NZ so postage for the complete bulky units would probably be expensive...

Re: Clonking Noise from Steering
Cant see you causing any issues with anything by doing what you did.... Most common cause of clonking from front suspension is from the drop links. The tiniest amount of play in them amplifies and sounds horrific. Next to check would be the tie rod (steering rack) ends. Lower ball joints dont often ...

Re: Acceleration Issues / EGR?
+1 for blanking off the EGR. You dont need to buy a blanking plate, I have done all of my MANY 406's using thin tin (tin can works) which can be cut with a pair of scissors. There is not any real pressure in the egr system. When you do it, have a look into the intake manifold and see how gummed up i...

Re: dpf warning light
I wouldnt worry about the glow plug warning. PP2K probably reports 95% of all 406's glow plugs as faulty, it is a well known anomaly. Glow plugs are really only used when temps are below freezing. If car is starting easily, ignore it. You can test glow plugs individually with a multimeter. Remove th...

Re: Switch next to diagnostic port
Definitely the cruise control switch. If it is working, pressing it in will put an orange light on in its face. But these switches are temperamental so often do not switch on because of corrosion inside and bad design.... had to fix most of mine as I use cruise all the time due to a wonky right leg/...

Re: Getting around the immobiliser
CD/amp removed at some time in its life, also this 406 does not leak!! First thing I checked after getting the car was to look under the driver's side carpet , expecting to do some corrosion maintenance to the plugs under there. Bone dry, no sign of any water ingress.. first 406 I have had which did...

Re: Getting around the immobiliser
No offense taken!! The reason for posting is to try to eliminate my annoyingly ever-present senility... (am almost 70 now so senility is my everyday companion...  ) Definitely selected 406R DAM number from wreck PP2K will not even boot up when selected, screen just returns to the PP...

Oh, and a compression test will not pick up minor leaks in cylinders, you need to do a cylinder leak down test to pick those up.

Re: Flywheel locking tool for 406 automatic
Have you checked your injectors? Bad spray pattern/leaky etc will definitely cause smokiness among other things. Injector seals are another thing that go wrong. Do a leak down test as a start. Also check running correction values and injector coding with PP2000.

Re: Injector correction values
The earlier injectors had 1, 2 or 3 on them. Later? ones like yours had x, y or z I think. Looking at the pic yours are Y. I have a 406 that had bad starting/idling/lumpy acceleration/cruising. Checked it out with PP2000 and found the injectors were not classed (cant remember the exact phrase PP2000...

Re: Getting around the immobiliser
Thanks for the response. I am pretty certain the wiring is all ok, chewing was confined to a single area, dash has all lights lit and all other things like fan. indicators, lights etc are working. It displays the immobiliser problem light on the dash as well so seems to have some sort of comms going...

Getting around the immobiliser
I have a problem trying to get a bsi/ecu/cluster obtained from an accident damaged wreck (no key supplied) to work in a 406hdi I am resurrecting. (old ecu/bsi damaged when rats munched through wires causing short and allowing all the smoke to escape from the loom... ) I have tried to get the 4...

Re: Electrical diagram - RHY
Have a look under the carpet on the driver's (rhs) front. There are large connector plugs under there that can cause all sorts of electrical issues if they become wet and corrode. It unfortunately is very common on the 406. I have had to correct this on most of the many 406's I have owned over 20 ye...

Re: Starting Issue. Glow Plugs?
Ignition switch, starter cranking speed and low residual fuel pressure/air in fuel line are the things that most commonly cause difficult starting. You could actually disconnect your glow plugs and engine would easily start unless ambient temp was below freezing. Given your starter sometimes fails t...

Can help with both if you cant source locally. No idea what postage from the Antipodes will be though. Just wondering what is wrong with booster though ?
