I think things are only going to get better for us in the construction industry. There's next to nobody new coming into the construction industry. Another 5-10 years and I think we are going to be desperate for staff and operatives.

Re: 1.6HDi DPF tested at 10 years old, 80k miles, how bad is it?

It's a generational thing. My parents (they're ~60 now) are obsessed with owning everything. I don't really see the issue. My only concern is a house, I'd like to have that all paid off once I'm retired (if I get there   ). I have a £202k mortgage and live in a new-build 4 bedroom detache...

Re: 1.6HDi DPF tested at 10 years old, 80k miles, how bad is it?

Yes PCP is pretty much a Lease package but with different endings - it certainly allows people to drive cars that would have been out of reach with traditional financing but I do fear manufacturers hike list prices to cover themselves. How did the Jeep get stolen? if I may ask. I do also think manu...

Re: 1.6HDi DPF tested at 10 years old, 80k miles, how bad is it?

We bought our Jeep outright, that was £12,000 at 6 months old with 1,700miles on the clock. Other than that we have enough money to get by for 4-6 months should one of us loose our jobs. I certainly couldn't have afforded to buy my car without some sort of finance, but PCP finance rates are favorabl...

Re: 1.6HDi DPF tested at 10 years old, 80k miles, how bad is it?

Funny enough I was having this conversation a few days ago with one of my managers. Back in 2003 my parents bought a brand new Ford Focus 1.6i LX unregistered for £9,995. At the time the LX wasn't even the lowly model, there was a CL. The LX got remote central locking, heated windscreen and a CD pla...

It's a fantastic place to sit and much miles. I'm gutted about this whole Covid thing because I'd love to spend a week on the continent with it. It's a 190bhp diesel with an additional electric motor thats connected to the crank which generates electricity during braking and assists the engine durin...

Re: 1.6HDi DPF tested at 10 years old, 80k miles, how bad is it?

The best decision I made was getting an apprenticeship. The majority people who I left school with took the university route, a lot of them work in call centres, or those with 'careers' are lagging behind me in terms of salary, house, cars, benefits etc. The apprenticeship itself taught me a lot of ...

Re: 1.6HDi DPF tested at 10 years old, 80k miles, how bad is it?

Unfortunately with my job I get the option of a company car (poverty spec Vauxhall Astra/Insignia) or I can opt out and take an allowance. The company I work for are quite strict about what car you can have if you opt-out. There's strict fuel economy and emissions requirements, it must be less than ...

Re: 1.6HDi DPF tested at 10 years old, 80k miles, how bad is it?

Parenthood is the single most challenging thing I've done. I was running a bath for the kids last night and could hear a ripping sound in the background, I got to the landing to find my 2 year out carefully peeling the wallpaper off the wall on our landing. Baby N°2 arrived in April and now w...

Re: 1.6HDi DPF tested at 10 years old, 80k miles, how bad is it?

Bit late to the party on this one but I've had a very busy couple of months. Oil is actually more volatile when new, then as the lighter components evaporate/burn off the oil becomes more stable. In theory, the longer you leave the oil the less should be burned through evaporation via the PCV etc. T...

Re: Turbo on 2.0 HDI 406

The HDi90 does indeed have an adjustable mechanical wastegate much like the 1.9TD or 2.1TD. However, you won't make any more power without any extra fuel. By all means up the boost by a few PSI but the engine management system will need to be retuned to add extra fuel before any power is made. Unfor...

Re: and today i have mostly been...

I quite like the idea of running around in previously expensive older cars (sub £1k) as apposed to financing some new euro shitbox. Bailes did you sell the SAAB privately? We part-exchanged it for the Renegade. Got £1,500 part-ex for it so couldn't moan too much. Problem with older cars is finding ...
