Re: 406's.........the future is bleak!!

After much navel gazing it was a 407 for me too. It'll be 6 years this October and I've put 120k on it and I still love it. I've since briefly had a 508 and by comparisson the 407 is so strange that it would make more sense badged as a Citroen, and the build and materials on the 407 is embarrassing...

Re: 406's.........the future is bleak!!

Toyota Avensis..... post 2002/3... ? May as well hang up your driving gloves and call it a day [emoji38] I know Toyoyo's are very proficient at being 'cars' but they lack soul and character that the 406 just....has. I'm not sure the 406's handling was that good really, the 405 I had was super-sharp...

Re: Fuel choice for your next car?

That's a very good point. A 2-minute scan of HDi Tuning's website shows you can get a 16V 2.0 407/C5 upped to about 170 bhp, with or without DPF delete for about £150 tops. Makes those cars a much more attractive proposition, thank you for the heads-up. 8) Can get them very cheap as well as people ...

Re: Fuel choice for your next car?

I've been looking around and find that petrol equivalents in most cases are no cheaper to buy, tax, typically use at least 20% more fuel, often have less power and always much less torque. I don't think the diesel era is over for me yet. Peter's Merc suggestion has go me thinking - they weren't on ...

Re: ROLLING COAL

My old 406 was remapped by Srdan (IQ93 map) which gave nearly 180bhp and zero smoke... I don't think the 'more smoke, more poke' saying is correct anymore - maybe in the old days... I agree I think it more relates to the old mechanical pumps, and sometimes they needed all the help they could...

Re: ROLLING COAL

So why do all the pd130's round here all chuck out black smoke then if there's no point ??? For the record my 407 is on standard map, with dpf intact and working as it should, I'm just curious

Re: ROLLING COAL

So why do the engines in tractor pulling etc emit so much smoke if it doesn't produce maximum power ??
