Re: I snapped this hose off, what is it?

thanks fellas.
Is that some kind of sensor it's connected to?
Will the car run without it until I fix it?
I had to put the battery on charge tonight as it's too flat to turn the engine over, so should get it fired up tomorrow again, IF I've done everything right.

cheers

I snapped this hose off, what is it?

1999 2.0l HDi 110 estate. Just plugging everything back together after a coupla days on me back in the snow doing a cambelt change and I leaned on this wee fella and it snapped off  What's it do? What's it called? Looks like something to do with air intake as that hose it comes off is about 2" ...

Re: replacing alternator brushes

Thanks Jasper, hmmm!!! Can you not replicate the wiring conditions on the bench and turn it over with a drill? I'm certainly no expert on this at all, but If it's a question of hooking it up the same way as in the engine bay and turning it over at a reasonable speed surely you could get the same rea...

Re: which A/C unit is this?

Yeah thanks Jasper, I realised that last night when I finished working on the motor as the light faded. I was clearing up and was hit by the obvious when I grabbed the old belt, there were the numbers staring me in the face    I've now ordered the (hopefully) correct belts and wate...

which A/C unit is this?

I'm trying to order a replacement cambelt kit but the supplier needs to know which Aircon unit I have, it should be either Sanden or Delphi I'm told. Can anyone tell me please which one this is? I can't make out any markings on it. thanks Millard http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a340/drillam/norton...

Re: replacing alternator brushes

Just been trying to think this through, tell me if I'm right please. When hooked up on the car am I right in thinking that the small screw terminal takes a 12v lead from battery via ign sw to energise the field coils? Neg from battery goes via chasis earth connection to alternator body? The large sc...

Re: replacing alternator brushes

Thanks Steve. I've rebuilt old Lucas 6v dynamos and their mating magnetos successfully in the past but I had a very good book with step by step explanations and drawings to follow. What I need if you have the time and inclination please is something like this - "stick the positive lead from your bat...

Re: replacing alternator brushes

I'm a bit thick on this fellas, help me out please - I need a simple explanation that a bright five year old would understand, don't want to fry the bluddy thing. Which connection has what attached to it? and where to I stick the leads from my meter?
thanks

bench testing an alternator

I got the old alternator off and I have the replacement on the bench. Still looking for brushes etc but then noticed that the brushes on the old unit were actually OK, maybe the rectifrier then? So I stuck it in the vice and rigged a Torx50 into my DeWALT battery drill and whizzed it round at around...

1999 2.0L HDi110, is it a D8 or a D9?

Hi, as per the title of the thread please? I'm replacing my duff alternator and decided that as I've got so much stuff removed/loosened off from the engine bay and I'm gonna be up to me elbows in grease on and off for a few days that I might as well go the whole hog and do the cambelt & tensioner, w...

Re: replacing alternator brushes

no worries at all guys. I'm just very grateful to you all for taking the time to reply and try to help me out here, no need to apologise. I realised that the original part no for the alternator is not what I stated before but 0124615002. The previous number I gave was for a reconditioned unit and mu...

Re: replacing alternator brushes

I won't know that until I know how many/big they are! 4 I guess. Or is it 2? I'll make some enquiries and give you a ball park figure. In case they know, what alternator is it? I haven't stripped the duff one out yet but the replacement came through from the breakers. IF it's the same model then it...
