The head is off.... almost

Post by jameslxdt »

i finally made use of this weekend to start work on the new car, i started of last night welding up the exhaust downpipe, started the car, and found the rearbox to centre section had rotted right at the flange, in the exact same place where wellys one went, so after much more welding and setting fire to myself and covering it in gungum, its silent again, though after running the engine for a while i noticed the water pump was leaking like a lot  so i thought fook it, and spent the afternoon taking the head off, its sort of almost off, the head is partially clear of the block, but i forgot to unbolt the turbo oil supply, and i noticed that the union is fookin great big 20mm-ish allen bolt, so by this time it was 5pm, i was coverd in oil, anti-freeze, i could only see out of one eye so i gave in, i managed to pull the gasket out, but at this stage i cant see where its gone, thats a job for the morning along with a trip to halfrauds to get the right size socket and take the head out and get it sent away for skimming

then it'll be a case of getting an MOT and roof rail then roll on happy D9 motoring 8)
i hope

Ah, I remember the days of my youth... The last head I had off had 6 pots, 2 cams and 24 valves and, despite being alloy, weighed a farking ton. Never again!

I done that too! I was under a mate's car wearing goggles and lying on a lump of foam rubber, I didn't notice but my mate walked past and did a double-take "Steve! You're on fire!!!"

How about:- 6 pots, 0 cams, 6 valves, Inclined mating surface
Remember - it only takes a few inches of water to drown a 406 don't make the same mistake I made! The V6 Exec is no more.

It is a Rolls Royce design, the IOE engine.

it nearly ended in disaster, as i went to put the head on the workbench, i tripped and threw it
first it bouced off my leg, ouch, then hit the floor, thankfully only one corner of the gasket face was damaged, the inlet manifold cracked and the thermostat housing smashed, thankfully there all still usable

ive got the gasket and bolts and few other bits on order so ill have next weekend to put it all back together 8)

If you could see me now James I am taking my hat off to you, and your lucky because I always wear a hat on a Monday

What a horrible job, I mean, just how do you get to some of the bolts around the exhaust manifold etc?

That would be the kind of job that (even if I could strip it down to that level) I would just never put it all back again

Look forward to the next episode then 8)
