Clutch change time?

Post by pernix »

Noisey release bearing and getting louder so time to change the clutch, anything to watch out for, will the box come straight out or are there silly things in the way (like a subframe etc) The car is a 2.2 16v sri petrol estate.

From what I've read you will need to drop the subframe and the n/s drive shaft. There are a couple of how-to's in the knowledge base :)

My release bearing seized last Sept leaving a nice hole in my pressure plate, had it replaced with a cheap kit as i was thinking of replacing the car, 9 months later and the release bearing makes a lovely noise after the cars been driven for a bit, in saying that i did a 3000 mile round trip to france towing a trailer and it's still going strong. I'd just hold off until it actually goes and then change it...

This may be the straw that broke the camels back
Its a great car to drive ,quick, handels well, and great to drive, but being a 2.2 sri, The parts are horendous prices compared to a 2.0 406. Replaced the centre exhaust £140 just for the part (£30 for a 2.0) clutch kit is £140 (£50-60 for a 2.0) Seriously thinking of selling it before something else expensive needs replacing.

If you do decide to sell, let us know how much you want before you spend out on advertising. I'm on the hunt for an SRi estate at the mo.

Just got it. Sent you a reply, but if it doesn't reach you (spam filters etc.) give me a ring or text on (pm'd mobile number) when you've got a couple of mins.
