clutch slipping HELP!!!

Hi
I have a 2ltr 406 HDI 90bhp
I have recently fitted a clutch and release bearing due to it slipping when putting power down on motorway, however i have found that it is now slipping intermittanly somedays it will slip all the time then others it wont slip at all even with my best efforts, i have checked the obvious things such as correct parts or loose fittings and the cylinder does not seem to be holding pressure keeping the clutch off so any ideas would be aprreciated.
anyone hads this problem before.

its a new clutch how long has it been on for . is it possible it could be still bedding in

Two things spring to mind:

1) You put the slave cylinder on without undoing the bleed nut and bleeding it through afterwards. This has caused an excessive amount of fluid in the slave section of the hydraulics and is causing your clutch to be part-disengaged all the time (dependent on temperature)

2) You have a contaminated clutch - either managed to get some oil on it (or the flywheel), or forgot to hit the plates with brake cleaner prior to installation so they've still got their protective coating on

Hi, interested to see this -just had the clutch changed on our 110HDI and though it doesn't give the symptoms you hve had:

1) for the first few hundred miles it would not select 3rd gear

2) It is a bit juddery on taking up the drive - not too bad; just needs more revs than the old one.

I wondered if the plates had been cleaned properly. If not, anyone know if the problem will eventually go away? It is not so bad I would feel I could return to the garage - not after 4k miles anyway!

Probably just a minor alignment issue which should go with time although you may be experiencing worn engine mounts which were hidden by your old worn clutch (and made worse by the stress/movement involved with the clutch change)

Thanks mjb - I will have a look for posts on mounts I think - at such a high mileage they probably have a right to be tired, and that would explain why selecting gears is sometimes difficult. Regards, Springnuts.
