If it aint broke......

I can see no good reason to disturb an oil seal that isn't leaking.

Mmmmmffffff*... that's pretty much it. If it's not leaking, you could leave it and it might fail tomorrow. Or in ten years. You can't know. On the other hand if you're going to replace it, that would be the time to do it. I think it's just going to have to be the call of the person working on it. Your garage says one thing, if you think you know better fair enough, go the other way. I don't think either path would be wrong.

They don't normally fail so they're not normally changed as a service item. I suppose you could change it while you're there, just for peace of mind, you could also change the crank pulley seal for similar reasons, and what about the flywheel oil seal? If you're changing that you may as well fit a new clutch. Ooh, and change the sump gasket, just in case. And the top cover gasket, and, umm, cylinder head gasket, they do go sometimes, skim the head and lap the valves while you're there as there's no point in doing half a job. I guess, while the head and sump are off you could just go ahead and change the big end bearings, just as a precaution. While the gearbox is off I suppose it might be an idea to change the diff seals. And the driveshaft gaiters, all 4 of course, and the troublesome drop links, and the strut top bearings, and the bottom ball joints, and the....
