HDi Fuel Filter

Post by moodybluetwo »

Hi everyone..this is my first post..hope you can help me.My car is a 406 GTX 2.0HDi. I`ve had it two years and had no problems with it. I change the oil/filters myself...but now I think it may be time to change the diesel filter. That in itself is not a problem....but my question is ...if water builds up in the filter does this come up on the warning display? The manual does not give a list of warnings...is there anyway to find out what warnings could appear...or just wait and see? Hope this makes sense. Bill

Hello & welcome 8)

I'm not certain on this, but believe some HDi's have warning lights, and some don't, (just depends on whose filter they used).

All have a drain tap - easiest thing is to drain a bit off periodically and check for water that way.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Thanks..I will try it tomorrow. What would happen if it filled up with water...could it damage the fuel pump?

Don't honestly know, but since you can't compress water, I'm guessing it wouldn't be good news.

(Sorry but I've told you more than I know already).
