hdi 110 intank fuel pump

hi guys when the intank fuel pump fails or is about to fail what problems can it cause
would it take a while for the car to start

also can u tell me where the non return valve is... is this located in the filter housing

also could someone tell me if the intank fuel pump supposed to have some sort of pipe that sooks up the fuel for when it gets low as my car seems harder to start when its low on fuel

I think the symptoms are more like won't start at all, no buzzing noise from under the back seat.

There's a one-way valve?

i have been advised to change my filter housing as this could be at fault aswell

The fuel pick up pipe is fixed onto the pump housing and this is used regardless of the fuel level. A faulty pump will result in a no start until it is given a whack, as Steve said it should pump on key on for a few seconds.
If this is happening and it takes a lot of cranking to start then it maybe the high pressure pump is not generating sufficent pressure to fire the injectors, but dont nessesarily blame the high pressure pump as many other componets can cause the same problems!!

the advisor probably suspects an air leak, hence housing change. try parking steep downhill overnight, if it starts ok in morning you have an air leak.

it starts no problem in the morning mate its when the car has been driven for a while i go to switch it off and switch it bk on and it takes ages for it to start

I don't think so, but some BMW's have 'em in the fuel filter. - A man I know had months of trouble after a service & eventually discovered the pattern filter lacked the n/r valve that was in the OE one. That's maybe where this idea comes from?
