I have a 2.1 td not sure if it direct injection, dont think so, on an P plate. 406 saloon gl, i think, that has an intermittent problem....
For some time now, it would randomly cut out for no reason, but start fine as soon as it stopped.
Sometimes it would run on for a bit also once turned off.
Took it to garage and they said stop solenoid on the pump.
Matey(mechanic) tried to get the stop solenoid off net but was unable to fit it as the pump is a sealed unit.
And has said it has to go to peugeot to be sorted out..and that was gonna cost 500quid..
Now as its not my car, its the father in laws car this is all 3rd hand info, so not sure if that's all in or extra labour.
Matey said "its a right off mate, feck it off and buy a new one"!

Easy for him to say, spent a lot on it already, cam-belt, clutch slave and master, brakes few other bits service ect...
And to buy a new motor, for about 500quid we, mainly me for the easy stuff will have to do all over again on the new car!

He also said that you cant use a second hand pump cause it will throw all the codes out.
The mechanic is a nice bloke and have no reason to doubt his work, but the fact he welded a sump with oil in it and I blew up on him!

To do a daft think like that makes me doubt his judgement.
I did initially post this in the welcome section

They all are, diesel doesn't atomise too easily.
Hmm, stop solenoid sounds likely I guess, although I think once they're dead they're dead.

Sounds about right for supply and fit of new fuel pump. Gits.

As far as I know, the only bit of the fuel pump that has anything to do with the immobiliser is the stop solenoid, so you'd need to do it anyway. I'm not even sure this is the case, I know on the 1.9 it just throws it a live.
You sure he's not thinking HDi?
I think we need someone who's had issues with the Lucas EPIdemiC but the only bods I can think of haven't been in for a while
You also have the alternative of swapping it out for a Bosch, have a read.
What does you guys reckon?
Is he talk guff? can I get it done for cheaper?
Steve gave me some good pointers, any other good sugestions?
