A sick car

I was at my friends who owns a 406, had the fuel pump done and i believe new injectors, because of bad quality diesel. But now the problem is that its showing antipollution fault and its not revving over 3000rpm compared to my car its dead. What could be wrong with it. Its a Pre multiplex D9 with 170k miles and it feels like its done all them miles. Engine sounds good though no odd rattles or knocks, starts fine, turns off fine.

Sounds like "limp-home" mode to my (completely untrained) mind.

Also, if it's an HDi, is the turbo OK?

Might need a diagnostic session with a fault code reader to see what's causing the antipollution fault.

Yeah you need to get the codes read.

It definatley is in limp mode wont rev above 3000, but comparing it with my car there must be no turbo either, because with mine you dont need to go over 3000, also as i was driving along something from the underside fell off like a big guard for under the engine, i dont have such a device.

The undertray? Welly knows about missing undertrays

My saloon also doesn't have one (and never did). As a result, the engine bay gets pretty dirty.

Is the undertray important?

Mines propped up at the side of the house since I took it off to service the car (and get at the right sump plug!)

It's just a shield to protect the engine from dirt, grit, dust, and salt that gets picked up from the road. To the best of my knowledge, a lot of 406s never had one fitted (mine included). Maybe a trim-level thing? i.e. not there on low-spec cars like my 1.8 LX, but there on an Exec HDi or V6?

ive an exec and no undertray boo ho says i, no couldnt be bothered with them, my engine bay is as clean as a whistle and it can be powerhosed ok

Mine seems to throw up water into the belts every time I go through a puddle - squeeel!
