Now, eurocarparts appear to do a timing belt kit for £260 which is a lot more palatable, but still daft if you find out the engine's dead after forking out...

One thing to watch is the aux belt tensioner (the roller bracket not the spring). It can seize up requiring the purchase of a new one at nearly £200, and it's a royal pain in the backside to fit. Do yourself a favour and give yours some copper slip. Grab some tippex and draw a line on your crankshaft pulley too. The rubber bit inside can break down leading to slipping and squealing as well as PAS and alternator problems. A line drawn over it and checked regularly will let you know if it's giving way.
ive just priced it out of curiosity and its £205 but with out the reg they cant tell me if its that one so may be cheaper
Hey Jamjar, I've PM'd you the car's reg. It'd be great if you could quote me a price...I'm starting to gulp at the cost of things here....should've gotten a 4 pot 8 valver! :P

just re-priced it with the reg and it turns out my motor factor cant get a kit but they can get a tensioner kit and separate belt.

£70.64+vat for tensioner kit
£44.66 for the timing belt

so £138.36 all in

"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

Did the timing belt on my uncles v6 last year and although it looks a bit daunting its not a bad job. The tensioner supplied now will be different to the original one, much easier to set, just a case of lining up two marks, lock it, turn engine over a few times with crank bolt then re check marks on tensioner again. One thing that was knackered was the aux belt crank pulley rubber damper nearly half gone, much longer and it would have fallen apart! Good luck!

Haha, cheers Jamjar. I just have too many things on at the moment, I have an Alfa Romeo project car where the bulk of my time and money go, plus I'm in my final year of a Mechanical Engineering Degree, so spare time is hard to come by. If it doesn't sell, I may have a rethink but tbh I just need the cash! :P
