Can anyone tell me if the injectors in a 406 HDI are the same as on a Picasso HDI ?
Was doing a bit of MOT work on my sister in-laws car yesterday which has just failed on emissions (amongst other things) and noticed one of the injectors is leaking. Not sure if it's the seat seal or the injector itself and was thinking of just changing the whole thing with one from a scrap car, however Picasso's are as rare as rocking horse s*%t at my local breakers and wondered if the engines were the same as a 406.
The picasso has clamps to hold the injectors but my D8 are screw in, is this the same on all HDI's ?
To be truthful she's run it into the ground so I'm looking for a cheap fix to pass MOT and then she's going to sell it on.
Thanks in advance
A little side note the drop links had gone again even tho they were only 12 months old and not surprisingly when the new ones arrived they were exactly the same as the ones I fitted to my 406. So it's not just us 406 drivers living with this problem!!!!!

Re: HDI Injectors
If it's a Bosch then it looks like it - http://www.uniteddiesel.co.uk/diesel_injectors/peugeot/ if it's Siemens then I've no idea. Big clamp at the base yes.
The C5 also has the same chocolate drop links (although the ones on on dad's old C5 never needed changing)

Re: HDI Injectors
I didn't realise diesels got checked for emissions. Always thought it was a smoke test?
Would a bit of redex and an Italian tuneup before the retest help?

I think pre 2001 diesels are simply a smoke testsirwiggum wrote:I didn't realise diesels got checked for emissions. Always thought it was a smoke test?
After that diesels are taxed based on their emissions, so it has to checked they conform to this
Technically based on emissions I should be paying £125 road tax, but as it's pre 2001 I have to pay £210

Re: HDI Injectors
Maybe farmer pug can help me out.
In a test centre I drive in, they eye check for excessive smoke at idle.
They then check the lights and wipers, before hopping in themselves and taking it to the braking zone.
No measure of density under load seems to be taken?

Re: HDI Injectors
The problem is this
To do test "properly" you need to "thrash" the engine to get it to give the readings needed for the test.
In the guidlines it says the cambelt must be in good condition for this
I'd wager that the mot centres don't want claims for snapped cambelts from punters from doing this, and use a "work around"
Hence with a diesel just go for a visual check

From what I heard, NI test centres (gov run) don't want the claims from this!plod wrote:The problem is this
