Gearbox drainplug size

Post by RichardFryer »

Read through a number of posts re changing gearbox oil
For the gearbox drain plug what sized socket / spanner is needed to remove it as I don't want to get underneath and find I have n't got the right tool ?
Previous posts mention a square plug for the middle but I think a socket will go over the outside of it, as it does for the gearbox level plug (21mm from memory) Its a shame that I did n't check the drain plug when I was down there last so can someone help

The ML5T uses an 8mm square tool.

Are we talking ML5 or BE here? It would be useful to know if it's the same or different.

Err sure you're not thinking about the engine oil sump plug? This is what the gearbox one looks like:

Perhaps it's a BE3 with one of those weird level-inside-drain plug things.
