"Almost like a diesel" so I take it its a Petrol turbo you've found then ;)

Rattling at the top end?.. hmm. If you could describe it as ticking, it could be the injectors or lifters. Check the oil level and colour.

If it is more like a rattle... manifold is loose perhaps?

sticky lifters? A good flush with Forte and some decent quality oil might breathe new life into it.

Definatley a diesel like sound rather than a rattle.

Have not commited to the car yet wanted some opinions first everything else is ok with the car apart from the backrest electric motor makes a noise but does not move sure thats an easy fix.

Will try and record the sound and post a linkt oit tonight if anyone wants to try and identify it.

Would love to buy the car but want to make sure it is ok first.

pug 8v engines dont have hydraulic lifters they have shimmed cam buckets (like tappets bu tnot adjustable) these need shimming occasionally to keep the noise down.
not a big deal just either put up with the rattle or get the cam reshimmed :)

I dont know about the ticking, but mine had the same thing with the backrest motor, its just the connection coming off underneath. Quite common so I'm told
