Clutch 2.0 HDI 110

Well I'm new to this forum as I got my first 406 last month but I believe the clutch is going so I need of a bit of help.
Cars a 1999 T reg 2.0 HDI 110
The car pulls away fine trough all the gears its only when you give it a bit of welly the revs start to go right up but only in 3rd and 4th. I have tried the test of putting it in 5th and letting go of the clutch and engine instantly stalls so it still has some life left in it.
I have read on hear the clutch works different to normal so was wondering if it could be adjusted.

clutch with the solid flywheel. I hear its a big job to do on these with sub frame off but how big of a job is it?

Also the engine mount needs doing so I might as well do that as well as the car shakes when turned off and the engine moves back and forth when revved so would you say this is the right one?

Hi,

I had the exact same car, with the exact same issues! you may find that the clutch only slips when everything is good and hot (say after an hour's use) and at other times operates ok. I ran mine like this for 2 years without any real issues (used to blip the revs around 2000 rpm until the power settled down and caught up).

The engine mount looks about right but is a big-ish job and not for a novice on the driveway IMO. Drive shaft has to come out (drain g/box) and the new bush to be pressed-in on a hydraulic press. Real ball ache job really for the sake of a £10.00 ish part

It is important to have the mount done because eventually it will tear through the exhaust flexi down-pipe (comes with a lovely new CAT if you like it or not) and then it tears through the front intercooler hose (I have T-Shirts for both of these jobs)

Hi and welcome , as regards the clutch i would go with what welly says , doesn't
sound as if it's too bad at the moment . If you do decide to do it and can afford to have
the car standing a couple of day's get to the clutch and look at it you may find you only
need the clutch and thrust bearing , as regards bottom mount same there get drive
shaft out and if you know a friendy garage take it there to have it pressed out and in,
will save a lot of swearing

I have a mate with a press so should be able to get the mount changed quite easily and I think the dmf is on its way out to so I thought if I'm going to do the clutch I might as well change that too.

Car has only done 90,000 miles but the previous own had been towing a caravan.

Got the clutch changed yesterday not as bad as I thought it would be, Managed to just lower one side of the sub frame to get the box out. The engine mount wasn't that bad either I cut thorough the old one with a jigsaw greased up the new one and taped it in with a big hammer.

My 2003 110 hdi did a lot of varavan towing when it was my dads company car.I got it in 2006 with 56k miles,its now got 143k miles,& i do a lot of caravan towing.And i`m still on the original clutch & dmf!!!Mine has slipped in 4th & 5th gear since i had it remapped to 140 bhp a week after getting the car,but NEVER slips while pulling the caravan
