Is this a problem?

Post by gumby6371 »

hi all, I just changed my leak off pipes and noticed the pipe coming from the rocker cover to the down pipe from the oil filler cap was split, closer inspection (wiggling it to see if it was tight) caused it to fall apart at the rocker cover end.
Should i drive the car as is or wait until i replace the pipe? I think it's a breather pipe so not critical it seals but i'm only guessing??

can you cut off the split piece, or would that make it too short?
406 estate, 2.1TD, I fixed her, then part exchanged her for a Mercedes E300TD Avantgarde Estate.
Hmmmm, straight 6 goodness!

that wont work as the pipe widens at the end to fit the outlet on the rocker cover, i've checked service box and it describes it as an oil vapour pipe so I 'shouldn't' lose a lot of oil running the car while I source a new pipe. I'm going to have to take the oil filler pipe out to get at it tho so it's going to be a messy but straight forward fix.
Think I need to invest in a box of latex gloves and a couple of cans of engine cleaner :supafrisk:
