Gear linkage adjustment

Post by maximoke »

Hi All. I am new here and this is my first post. I own a 1998 V6 and I think the gear stick position is slightly too far forward when in the neutral position. When engaging forward facing gears (1,3,5) it pulls the leather shroud out from near the ciggy lighter. Can the length of the two cable be adjusted to compensate this? I guess it would only be one of the cables but I've not had a chance to look yet. Also, apart from Peugeot, can anyone tell me where to get cam gaskets? Thanks..

Hi, welcome to the club :D

That sounds a bit odd, don't think I've heared of that before. Does the gear change feel wooly (not that it's ever that sharp in a 406  )? I'm wondering whether there's something wrong at the base of the lever, have you taken the gater off for a look?

Hi there, I have not actually done anything about it yet as I have only just got the car, but from my memory (used to have a 2.1TD and these have the same linkage i think) the linkage is of the more modern cable type rather than rods and ball joint linkages, so not sure what can be done. I guess I'll have a look asap and then post again. If it turns out it's under the bonnet then I guess that's the TB etc that needs to come off. Cheers.

Hi there. For those who read this, I have now adjusted my gear linkage and it needs to be done under the bonnet, quick job really. Much better now. Also did the removal of the metal band in the air filter housing. Thanks for your reply.
