You'll need to know what you're doing for sure. I beleive there's a few guides out there on whats required, The one i did was quite an 'involved' job, sorting out injector lines to not just reach the injectors but to clear averything else, finding an ignition live. It was relatively easy work for me, but as i've said, if you dont know what you're doing then i wouldnt attempt it.
The conversion also has it's downsides, rev counter drops off at 3k, you need to destroy half of the loom holder. There's fixes out there for the rev counter i think but not got round to that yet
Apparently a different ECU or bosch injectors, one with the wires on it.

Re: more from 2.1
i was thinking a simple remap and that was that, sounds like alot of work changing the pump and prob not acheive a great deal.
suppose people change pumps rather that forking out till get the lucas pump repaired.
thanks kris for the info

As far as i'm aware, 180bhp is easily acheived from the 2.1 on a bosch, you could always fit a 10 or 11mm head to the bosch, I own a 306 and work mainly on them. The potentials are massive with a bosch pump and once the pump is on they're all relatively cheap mods to do. There's a guy running 216bhp from a 1.9 xud, darrenjlobb, google him. That stuff is crazy!

Re: more from 2.1
I looked into remapping the Lucas before I took the plunge and got Kris to do the pump swap, to be honest I wouldn't risk it. The Lucas pump can be notoriously unreliable and I can imagine running more power through it will just add to the equation.
Whereas if you get a Bosch VE pump on there you can do all sorts:
- Easily tweak it if you feel confident, a matter of screws instead of fiddling with computers and ECUs
- Feel safe in the knowledge you're using a more reliable pump
- Run it on vegetable oil for £1/litre!
It worked out quite well for me as the cambelt was overdue a change anyway so I got Kris to do the whole shebang, and for not too much more than what other garages quoted me for a cambelt change, Kris supplied and fitted a Bosch VE pump too (~£450)!
The car goes like stink now and feels MUCH better through the whole range than it did on the Lucas, well worth considering!
As Kris said, one of the pitfalls discovered is the fact that you lose the tacho at 3k, but apparently finding a pre-97 2.1 ECU cures this.
A pic of the finished product:

Nice job ^^
My dream veggie car would be a 406 estate with all the toys, with the 2.1 converted to Bosch tweeked up to 180bhp

Re: more from 2.1
Hehe ditto! Mine still needs a fair amount of tweaking, it has a boost leak from behind the manifold cover too so I've got a boost gauge turning up tomorrow, I've been reading everything I can on tuning the Bosch pumps and I have a pre-97 ECU turning up any day now that will (hopefully) cure the 3k bug and the check engine light!ally406 wrote:Nice job ^^

Re: more from 2.1
oooh, pre 97 ecu fixes the rev counter? Ideal.
Does it have to be a 2.1, or will the 1.9 do?
Or can i use the standard 2.1 ecu and fit a needle lift injector? What does it plug into? the flywheel rev pickup?

Re: more from 2.1
What about using the ecu from a Bosch 2.1 (XUD11ATE)? Or is that too much mucking about?
