intermittant high self revving and running badly

Post by Briggsy »

Hi there, can any one help? I have a 406 2.0 HDi estate, 2003 on a 52 plate. A couple of months ago the engine management light came on with the 'antipollution' message on the display. After a few days the car became undriveable, it would start and run OK but there was no throttle at all. Followed a tip and put a bottle of Comma diesel magic in the tank and one in the fuel filter and left it overnight. The next day, after blowing out a huge puff of black smoke the car was again driveable although the message was still displayed on the dash. All was good for 1000 miles (car drove better than it has in a long while) but car has again started misfirng? and occasionally high revving. Thought maybe it was the eolys fluid that needed refilling and resetting but according to Peugeot my car doesn't have that. Does anyone have any idea what my next step should be. I don't have either the money or faith in Peugeot main dealers to give it to them to solve. (sorry it's a long post).

Best thing is to get the codes read

Post up your location and maybe someone might be near enough to accept some beer tokens in return
1999 D8.5 HDi GLX - Sold :(

2007 Mondingo Zetec - I seek forgiveness :( Bring back my 406

Thanks for the reply. I'm in Ardingly, West Sussex. An auto electrician plugged in his machine and came up with P1614, P0235, P0190, P0121, P0221, P0203 and P0202. Mind you that was at the start before I had tried the diesel magic, so could be different now I guess.

Hi Not sure if this is relevant but i had self revving problems simelar to yours and the codes it threw up were completely different to the issue. In the end it was the crankshaft/crank case sensor. It took me ages to figure it out and I tried lots of things but if it is that its reletively cheap and easy to do. (think it cost around £30) Its something worth trying if noone has a better solution. thanks
