Alternator belt and tensioner

Hello,

Looking to replace my alternator belt and tensioner as something there is making a really annoying whining noise. Can someone recommend me a place where I can buy a good quality belt and tensioner for a 2.1L TD engine? Not really keen on buying things off eBay as the belt could be made from fluff..well you never know

Also, is it recommended that I replace the bottom pulley while I am at it...? (assuming I don't have to take the cambelt off!)

Dude.... it might not be the tensioner but one of the rollers ! How many miles she done?

Could be even cheaper to fix

Try Peugeot, as the same with all french crap, they chuck on the parts that they have available at the time.

I know that for the 2.0 HDI 110 there are 2 different types.
I replaced my alternator belt and top tensioner today and it wasnt any where near a difficult as I thought. Got the part from Peugeot for £41 and i took about 1 hour to do, but only because I wanted to take the tensioner pulley off to give me a little more room to get the tensioner off. Only I didnt realise that the pulley has a reverse thread to you turn it clockwise to loosen it.

On the 2.0 HDI the top tensioner only has 1 bolt holding it on, and is easy to sort out. Not sure about the bottom tensioner, although it looks like there is only 1 bolt holding it on. Not sure how much the 2.1 differs.

Thanks for replies. Niz, she's done nearly 109k miles. I know the cambelt was changed at 66k but not sure about the alternator belt though...

All you need to do is look and see if any of the belts edge is frayed or any of the splines are cracked... if so replace it.... if not dont worry !

Hmm it looks fairly decent.. no fraying on the belt or anything... But it's still making an annoying sound (from somewhere around there anyway). Gotta squirt some WD40 on the roller/tensioner bearings - if I manage to get to the damn things to see if it makes any difference.

My alternator belt tensioner/roller was squeeking recently and I squirted WD40 on the bearing part and it stops for about 5 minutes

So I considered changing it but after a few more days the squeeking stopped and hasn't returned

Squeeling belts can be more of a problem in damp/high humidity weather as the belts seem to swell a bit and it has been humid recently.

almost positive both belts would be changed at the same time,only an extra 15 mins to the job,go for gates belts if you can (the best).
also motor factors give conflicting advice regarding pulleys/tensioners,take care.
