Hi I am new to this forum.
I have just bought a 99 plate 406 hdi with 70K miles on it. I plan to change the timing belt and pullys however after digging about a bit, A few people have come back saying i shouldn't do it because the belt tension has to be precisely measured using a SEEM instrument. Is this the case? Or could the tension be set by feeling belt deflection?
Any help welcome.

have done a few of these belts without a seem.C.tronic gauge, i used the old twist the belt method and none have snapped as of yet, it just depends how confident you are and how competent a mechanic you are
