HELP!!!!
Hi guys just a quick one....wondering if anyone has had a problem like this?????
2.2 hdi 406
Starts from cold no problem, if i turn it off 10 mins up the road it wont start straight away needs a lot of cranking over before it fires up. Ive looked everywhere on the net and im getting a mixture of faults which ive slowly gone through one by one. Fuel filter of 2 months was quite dirty so i changed that and interestingly enough found a few metal filings in the bottom of the bowl. ( crap from tank i hope ) cleaned and fitted new filter. It started up no problem, each time the in tank pump buzzes and primes up. its completely hit and miss when it does start and dont. getting frustrated with it now and need it going properly. someone said maybe camshaft sensor???? please help would be very kind. cheers

Re: HELP!!!!
Metal in the filter bowl suggests a lift pump probelm - I lknow you've checked you can hear it, but have you proved it's delivering fuel?

Re: HELP!!!!
Mine used to do this when the in-tank pump was crapping out, it'd always start first thing but then if you stop somewhere 10 mins later it won't start. The pump will sound really grumbly towards the end, like an old compressor knocking.

Re: HELP!!!!
Seeing how the metal bits were in the filter bowl then they can only come from the lift pump - this it the first piece of equipment the fuel gets to. The filter protects the HP pump from bits but even this has an inlet screen of sorts.
Anything going wrong with the HP pump goes straight to the injectors.

Re: HELP!!!!
Thanks for the info guys. i've ran diagnostics and found nothing. is there anyway the swarf could get from the hp pump on the return?
