1.8 cutting out

Post by crad2 »

Merry christmas.
In need of a bit of advice please. A 1.8l 16 valve XU7JP4 engine petrol cuts out when you take foot off accelerator. It will start and rev smoothly just will not idle. Was going to check plugs and throttle position sensor. Anyone had this problem before? Am i looking in right place.
Many thaks all.

Thanks for reply. I took throttle housing off and cleaned and checked throttle potentiometer but it seems ok to me, refitted still same. Someone said oxygen sensor so i took it out to check it on multimeter but not sure what reading it should give me. Heater resistance is ok on 2 pins and get about 0.8 volts on other 2 pins when tip of sensor is put in a flame to heat it. (googled testing 02 sensor) so appears ok too.
Not sure about that stepper motor on throttle housing and its operation.
