Best way to tell is to pop the bonnet & look for a hose running down the passenger side next to the plastic engine cover. If there is one, you are looking at a 110. If the only thing that side of the plastic cover is the airbox, the engine is the 90.

This also applies for 307s & Citroen Xsaras, although the 307 has a slightly different engine cover design.

For reference, here is my 110 engine bay. You can clearly see the hose.

The hose certainly does lead to an intercooler. If you're mechanically minded then fitting an intercooler is an option, but if you're just looking for power, a remap would be much less hassle & not too much money.

Before I got my 406 I was also looking at 307s & deliberately sought out the 90bhp model as the 110 307 has a particle filter which I wanted to avoid. Dealers tend to let Autotrader fill in the blanks when they put in the reg number & I looked at a lot of 90s which turned out to be 110s. I wouldn't be surprised at all to find that the same happened with 406s too.

Told my insurance my numberplate and they told me it was a 1.8 Petrol
So it's best to go have a look for yourself!
I'l be fitting an intercooler and having a stage one remap in due course, intercooler is just to help keep charge temps down under load :)

Bob,
My 03 Hdi90 estate has a sticker at the bottom of the B pillar, behind the lower back corner of the drivers door that says in big letters 'Hdi 90'.
This was handy as the bloke I bought it off had no idea what it was, and he was the original owner!

last owner had it years and was quite happy thinking it was a 110, probably an enterprising car salesperson found you can taylor the car to different customers by fitting whichever sticker suited.
Suppose it might be viewed as good news if the 90's don't wear out as soon as the 110's as it's going to get uprated somehow , sometime when I find out best way to go, and have some cash!
