hi, i've fitted loads of belts-not to pugs yet and seen tensioners vibrate to some degree on many so wonder if there isn't a problem?
why me?

Maybe was dayco made? I've heard very bad things from various mechanics about Dayco recently.

Re: AFTERMARKET TENSIONER CRAP??? delco/delphi?
I THINK... dayco is part of gates who are belt manufactures -and oe on lots of cars but poss they don't make pulleys and outsource them, I've used dayco belts for years and no probs. nowdays every belt maker seems to do full kits when i'm sure they don't all make pulleys same as i also don't think skf [bearings?]who sell kits make belts.
Had an engineer friend who re-bearinged [new word] his discovery serpentine auxillary belt tensioner with a 'grade a' bearing that wore out in a few months when the rattley old one had run knackered for a year - perhaps they need more tolerance to cope with automotive environment and perhaps theres nowt wrong with the original posters pulley?

Re: AFTERMARKET TENSIONER CRAP??? delco/delphi?
Mines flapping a bit.
Had all this on the XUD/405, ended up setting the eccentric tensioner with the engine running so I could see exactly when it stopped flapping, it was perfect for a while and yes I still have all my fingers!
I'm gonna have another look at the Hdi but I think it might be too fiddly to try a stunt like that.
For the Hdi I used a 1/4 drive T bar in the eccentric adjuster, bit small but did the job.
Also I was offered 2 aux belts 1737 and 1750mm, the original was 1744, I went with the shorter and it just slipped on, so plenty of scope for adjustment.
Did a cambelt kit saturday, all fine but there was some dry crust under the water pump pulley, too late to go shopping again and I needed the car Sunday.
Anyone seen this? how long has the pump got?

Re: AFTERMARKET TENSIONER CRAP??? delco/delphi?
when this tensioner is flapping around what noise, if any do you get?
i,m about to change mine but waiting on the weather as every dry day i,m working and every wet day i,m home.
my noise is a squealing noise on tick over but when you rev it the squeal goes but i dont think its a loose belt,
its a more mechanical squeal, god that sounds so thick !

Re: AFTERMARKET TENSIONER CRAP??? delco/delphi?
ithink alot of people are overlooking the Marker on the tensioners,
if you look theres a guide on them that will show you if the tension is correct,
if it dont tension correctly with a new aux belt, then you adjust the bottom pulley
ive seen people adjust the pulley whilst its on a aged aux belt and then when the time comes they decide to replace the auxbelt the tension is wrong,

It's a common fault on HDi engines, you can grab one for about 90 pounds. There's a guide here or on the coupe' forum on how to replace them.
