406 wont start

when i switch on the ingition, the petrol gauge reads half a tank, which is correct.when i turn over the engine the gauge goes to empty and car wont start. when i stop turning the engine over the gauge goes back to half. when i did get the car started the gauge went back to half.the car starts now, but the gauge does the same thing when i turn the engine over. is this normal

Mine does the same mate it's like the battery is concentrating on getting the engine going not the electrics.
