Re: Hdi engines,
It's a well-written, informative article, but describes the state of HDi development around 1999/2000.lozz wrote:http://autospeed.com/cms/A_109357/article.html
worth aread. some good pictures on there too.
Interestingly, note the statement, 'Pre-injection occurs only if the engine speed is less than 3200 rpm'. (which is when what's known as worn injector 'rattle' stops).
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)

Demonstrates how unfriendly a system this is. Can't emphasise enough how cheap / simple / effective removing the whole shooting match is in comparison.

Re: Hdi engines,
The part on the voltage the injectors take/use / hold ididnt know about,
perhaps thats why they need agood alternator and battery,
abit more info there than Explained in the Haynes bible me thinks

Re: Hdi engines,
I always took that with a pinch of salt, after all how much engine oil is meant to find its way into the exhaust in the first place? This is the only way I can envisage that the constituents of the oil can affect the particulate filter. If your car can do 12,500 miles without topping up, there can't be much oil escaping via the exhaust, regardless of whether its mineral, semi or fully synth......
I reckon it's dealer-speak, (bullshit / spin), designed to give them an 'out' from the consequences of supplying a crap system in the first place.

Re: Hdi engines,
Low ash oils are required in fap.
M-B and Chrysler had a few problems with dpf cars serviced with the wrong oil.
The ash does not burn out in the regen process.

Re: Hdi engines,
Brilliant HDI engine article. I saw references to opening the third piston in the injector for speeds sub 3200rpm during ECU remaps - presumably this increase normal engine noise?
I better check my glow plugs/relays. I don't think they ever worked on my engine as it's difficult to start if the car has been standing overnight in sub zero temps. Not usually a problem though...

Re: Hdi engines,
On topic of Hdi engine,
as anyone noticed lack of power when engine is cold not up to temp ?
This citroen hdi, feels slow when its cold but as soon as it warms up its quick,
are these Moderner hdi engines any diffent to say, an early staged hdi engine,
so say compare, 1999 to 2002,
imean differnce in parts, one thing ive noticed, on the oil feed pipe from block going to the turbo theres a filter, my old d9 vreg didnt have this

Re: Hdi engines,
2.2's are definitely slower until the water temp. reaches 70 degrees, (bypasses the intercooler to aid warm up via a smaller, water/air heat exchanger, this is mainly provided to heat the intake charge temp during FAP regens). I suspect there may be a few other differences, egr operation, for example.

Re: Hdi engines,
According to Service Box, there was some very late HDi110's with DPF, but as yet, we haven't seen anythreepot wrote:I take it from reading some of the links, that this particulate filter thingy, doesn't effect pre 2000 hdi's?? Mine 1999 2ltr 110.
