Hi..This is my first Pug and could be my last!!..I have a 90HDi which has not been driven properly for about 12months, it has 112K and has had a replacement Turbo at 110K...It was laid up by the previous owner as it was belching black smoke out, I now have it and my Mechanic has had the injectors out for benchtesting and they are OK, he sent the ECU off for checking and something has been repaired but I do not know what. Since it has come back there is no black smoke BUT it now takes about 3-4 attempts to start it and when it does fire it is lumpy and kicks out plumes of white/grey smoke until it warms up. Once it is warm it runs and starts again with no problems.
The glow plug light has never come on and my gut feeling is that there is a problem with the heating system or the plugs themselves which may have been damaged by the so called repair to the ECU?. I understand that the smoke is unburnt fuel due to the lower temperatures, I am not loosing coolant, so it must be the fuel.
I think I'm on the right track...I welcome your views?????????

It does sound like glow plugs, white/grey smoke on start up which later clears is usually glow plugs.
Weird how the turbo was changed, because they VERY RARELY fail.
