I've had mine for 10 years and believe that it is the tiniest bit smoother, more powerful and more economical than the standard 2.0l 16V, but the fact that they're as rare as rocking horse poo isn't necessarily a good thing if I'm honest.

I've had nearly 90K of mostly trouble free motoring, the only real failure being the high pressure fuel pump last year, costing a grand to put right . Other than that she's only needed an EGR valve and one sensor. One thing I've learned is that it's particularly sensitive to plug gaps, if you get them wrong you end up with a little misfire under load

Generally I'm extremely happy with it! It's a real mile muncher that's smooth and quiet enough to rival much newer and more expensive alternatives.

Well like I said, when it's behaving itself you really won't beat it, but it does have the potential to rape your wallet if things go TU

I love mine though, looking around for a new car at the moment but just can't justify spending the cash when I already have a great car... 8)

Interestingly enough, howmanyleft.co.uk says there are only 20 406 HPi left in the UK, 17 taxed and 3 SORN, so they really are pretty rare!

wow... i would stay away from them ,not that they aren't good but the lack of scrapyard bits will get you in some trouble later(mainly you would need dealer parts or if by any chance you have a third party that makes the part you are after you are lucky) if you have any problem.. , no hard feeling Dairees  :cheesy: 8)

None at all mate, that's kinda what I was saying

Saying that I don't think I've ever bought an engine part from a scrapyard, always from motor factors or dealers.... Still the rarity of the engine is bound to push the parts prices up. :(
