Evening all,
The last couple of weeks I've been getting an exhaust smell in the cabin which is particularly stinky when I run a high veg fuel mix.
It started after I serviced it and managed to get a load of air in the fuel lines.
My theory is the extra movement from the engine when it fired up from cold and was hunting quite badly has cracked the exhaust paste where the exhaust connects at the back of the turbo.
2 questions;
How easy is it to clean off hardened exhaust paste?
Should I have even used exhaust paste on that joint?
Being a D8 it has the shouldered bolt and spring type exhaust fixing kit with an internal chamfered steel mesh type gasket.
A swift response would be appreciated as I'm having to limit my journies and drive everywhere with the windows open as I quite often have the kids in the car.

Exhaust paste is easy enough to get off, (Normaly,)
just Gently tap it and it will fall off, (Mind your eyes when removing the exhaust paste,)
Get a dry Rag,,and put your hand over the tail pipe with the engine running,
, you will be able to work out if thats the actual place of any exhaust leaks that way,

Re: Exhaust smell in car
Ive just cured a Stinky diesel car,
1stly icoverd the Tail pipe it pushed my hand away, no hiss so that ruled out leaky zorst pipe,
iended up giving it a good snort of egr cleaner and thats sorted it,
The fumes in the car where sickly, and standing behind the car with the engine running it stunk,
Might be well worth looking at the Egr. if the exhaust is not blowing,
