In anticipation of maybe having to replace my clutch I have been doing some pricing. Best price I had got was £95 +vat from a local motor factors for a LUK clutch kit.
Decided to try my local stealers & got a nice surprise. The wrong clutch kit had been ordered for a vehicle & the parts guy had kept it sooner than send it back. Turns out it was the correct one for my car (2051W2). Retail price was £128 +vat but to clear it out he will sell it for £95 all in!
The only concern was that it is an exchange clutch ie I have to bring back my old clutch when I fit the new one. The guy said that it was a genuine valeo clutch but couldn't say whether it was re-manufactured or not. Do valeo sell recon clutches? Should I go for the LUK kit that I know is brand new?
Got these prices at the dealers for other stuff I may also need to fit. All prices include vat.
Bottom engine mount 180933 £24
Crank oil seal 012728 £15
LH diff seal 312144 £15
RH diff seal 312146 £15
Gearbox seal 210535 £15

Go for the LUK!
Never fit a recon clutch!
I find it difficult to believe a dealer might be fitting a recon clutch, crazy!!
You can get the lower mounts from factors for half the price of the dealers.
You should only need the diff seals.

Re: Peugeot Exchange Clutches
By Recon -clutches,
do you mean clutch plates that have been stripped and new friction Material Added?
idont think theres anything wrong with that But:
if the price is simalar too a totaly new one its not worth it,
ive used rebuilt clutch plates and brake pads, ive never had a problem
this is the company iuse: G P Automotive Products
Unit 1 Linguard Business Park, Rochdale, OL16 5QH
isee parts shop vans and other company vans go there so
my guess is alot of people end up with a re manafactured clutch and be unaware of it once its in a fancy cardboard box

Re: Peugeot Exchange Clutches
Hi mate, I have 2 brand new genuine crank shaft oil seals here matching that part number. I can get one out to you for £10 delivered. PM if interested.
Have you looked on ebay for a clutch kit? When I did mine at the summer I got a genuine Peugeot kit for £83 delivered. I also managed to pick up a genuine OE lower engine mount including the bracket for £23 delivered. You get piece of mind that the genuine item will last, and it was a straight swap, no messing around with pressing out the old bush and pressing in the new one. I think the trick is the type in the Peugeot part number and tick "include description". I've turned up loads of bargains.

Re: Peugeot Exchange Clutches
Thanks for the offer Ally but the clutch seems to have cured itself! There is only a slight weep of oil & I think it's from the sump so I'm not going to take off the gearbox just for that. If I ever need a seal I'll keep you in mind.
I found out on another forum that the 'exchange' clutches are actually brand new, not reconditioned units. What they do with your old units I have no idea but the one you get is new & carries a full warranty.
