I'll bet a forum coupon that it leaks out again in a few days
Difficult to test at this time of year but the climate ECU will stop the compressor from 'clicking in' below 0deg C - this is to protect itself so bear that in mind (in case you think its broken).

Im glad i just read that--i got in from work straight out to car and sure enough still no clicking...now i know why..
does that mean the aircon wont work below 0deg C??does it mean that there may of already been gas in it and i didnt know before i got it recharged?lol

if fault or leaks are found they shouid of emptied it,
thats what they normaly do anyhow,
Go back and complain,
i,ll wait till saturday when i can go myself and have a moan--hopefully would of warmed up a bit by then so i will know for sure if working--it does get very cold when on and at 14 deg on display but can hear any clicking or rpm change ?

The compressor is disabled at low temperatures because the refrigerant oil cannot circulate properly in these conditions therefore it is switched off to save wearing the compressor (which it would).
You do not need the demisting affect as much in icy weather because the air outside is already very dry (most of its moisture is on the ground in the form of frost etc) and if heated is quite good at demisting on its own. You may have noticed over the last few days going out to your car in the morning at -3deg but no frost on the windscreen? that's because the air is 'dry'.

Using 14mm socket and ratchet had a go at tightening the bolt on the clutch on outside of aircon pulley--course the whole plate turns with the bolt...
Anyway managed to grip it tightly and the bolt turned approx 1/4 turn and viola the plate is now not loose and no rattle..
I think if comes loose again i will use a g clamp or mole grips to hold clutch plate whilst i tighten--main thing is i now know how to sort if it does..
All i need now is temp to warm up a bit so i can see if air con compressor does actually work--as welly said it wont cut in at these temperatures...thanks again all for your help...
Now over to the electrical forum to post about my fuel gauge...
Can confirm now that the outside temp has reached the tropical heights of 9 deg in Southampton that the aircon does work and the compressor does "click" in.
Thanks all for advise.
