Every so often I get the wierdest loud bang noise when driving my 406. It sounds like a loud stone hitting the windscreen, but it as happened on a few occasions, scares the sh*t out of me and I dont know what it is.
Do big stones have flown up and hit my car yet (touch wood), but it is very peculiar.
Car runs fine, so it is puzzling me?
Anyone have a any ideas?
Pris.
Pris, or anyone else with the EW10j4 engine, if you ever get a similar noise but really bloody loud while driving and the engine races or when trying to start and then doesnt start, then your inlet manifold may have blown up, very common on this engine
have a look at this:

Yes, and that's exactly where the tea leaf will look. Just like he knows the locking wheel nut key is in your ashtray/glovebox/sparewheel well what a lovely place we live in eh? you work hard and buy something nice and some numpty thinks he deserves it more than you.
Cars in my care:
2021 Kia Spottage 1.6 Pez Turbo Dual Clutch Gearbox Trickery
2013 Renner Twingo - donkey work

All depends on the risk. As I said, in a high-risk environment I'll have EVERYTHING out of the car (or at the very least in the boot before I leave home) and if possible leave the glovebox empty and open. It's just a deterrent, christ I bet the more determined wankers can even do something with a fascia-less stereo, so we're back to the early 90s trend of carrying the stereo around with you...
Having my stereo nicked I can deal with - I've still got the OEM one and the changer in the back. It's having the window smashed that would really f*ck me off! Especially since I almost always have to disable the ultrasonic alarm sensors
I've always wondered if a situation like that would be covered under 3rd party F&T insurance, or if the 'theft' part only applies to the chassis or something...

sh*t! That looks like an expensive job to rectify!
Thats ok the Pioneer KEH P8600 is like a 9 year old unit anyway... your insurance must have paid for a newer model ??
Maybe it was a sign to upgrade ???
nothing wrong with this unit niz, my one just died though, not completley the cd player stopped working and you cant turn it up, so i put the factory jbl back in

That the main reason i haven't fit my after market head unit. When they broke in to the last car i ended up spending an entire morning taking the drivers seat out and stuff to get the glass out. Still didn't get it all out.
At least i got a new window and seal from a breaker for £20 the same morning which was good.
